My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hola! My name is CANDELA and here is some info about me:

PHYSICAL INFO:

  • Breed: Lab and Irish Setter Mix
    Age: 11 years
    Gender: Female
    Weight: 81lbs (36.6 kg)
Height: 60 cm (paws to top of my head)
Length: 89 cm (head to butt)
    Current Location: MEXICO CITY

RESCUE STORY - I was found outside a bus shelter one night when I was just one year old. I was pregnant, cold and scared. That night was TEN years ago now and I have been living in the shelter all of this time! I would really love to find a loving family to call my own!

TEMPERAMENT - I am a sweet senior dog who loves snuggles with my humans. I am low energy, but still have a playful spring in my step and will even roll over for belly scritches! I enjoy playing with other dogs and taking walks.

ENERGY LEVEL - Low - I am a calm senior dog and will enjoy leisurely walks, but will mostly love those snuggles!

GETS ALONG WITH:

  • Kids – Unknown.
Dogs –  Yes. I enjoy playing with other dogs in the shelter.
Cats – Unknown. I have met cats and don’t show too much interest in them. See video here.

PREY DRIVE - Unknown. I’m not too sure how I’ll react around squirrels/rabbits etc., so my adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise.

TRAINING:

  • Leash skills – Work in progress. I will need an adopter who is happy to work with me on my leash manners. A well-fitted harness and some dedicated leash training will help set me up for success!
House trained – Work in progress. Frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement will help me learn housetraining in my new home :)

Please Note: WCP Dog Rescue partners with Unleashed Dog Training (Hannah Swain, Balanced Dog Trainer) to offer adopters 50% off one training session (not including tax and applicable gas surcharges). Any subsequent sessions will be offered at standard rates. WCP also highly encourages adopters to do some research and training on their own before their dog arrives.

HEALTH NOTES:

  • I am spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. I will come to Canada with proof of all my vaccines and test records.
I will be tested for Heartworm etc. before flying North.
NOTE: It is not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work/cleaning after they are adopted. West Coast Paws does not cover the costs of dental work and/or vet visits. These costs are the financial responsibility of the adopter.

ADOPTION FEE:

  • My adoption fee is $550.00 CAD + applicable taxes, which includes my airfare, if a flight volunteer is found directly to Vancouver.

DISCLAIMER:

Please visit wcpdogrescue.com to read about West Coast Paws Dog Rescue and its adoption process.

The info included in each WCP bio is provided to us from the international rescuer. WCP does not have in-person access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions, although we ask for video proof of a dog's attributes wherever possible. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person(s) adopting them and the environment in which they live.

WCP is unable to guarantee the accuracy of a dogs age and/or breed. These are strictly "best guesses" based on veterinary exams and their educated estimates.
