My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Ruby! Ruby is a German Shepherd Mix. She is around 2yr 5m old(April) and weighs 58lbs (Jan2024). Ruby is spayed, current on vaccines, microchipped and HW negative. She is also house trained and kennel trained.
* Ruby’s story: We don’t know much about Ruby’s story before now except that she was abandoned with a small bag of food at a dog park in Denham Springs.
* Ruby’s personality: Smart, ready to learn, can be easily trained, goofy, playful, and pretty content just doing whatever. Her foster is working with her on leash manners. Considering Ruby was at a dog park, we assume she plays well with other dogs and has not been tested around cats or kids.
* Ruby’s likes: Playing fetch, playing with toys and balls, walking on a leash, and is perfectly happy just being in the same room as someone.
* Ruby’s dislikes: Touching her while she eats and strangers. She will alert you when someone new comes around. Please consider giving Ruby the life her previous owner(s) didn’t. She needs a loving family willing to give her the good live she deserves.

More about this rescue

What is APAWS?
A.P.A.W.S (Animal Protection and Welfare Society) is a volunteer, foster-based, no-kill, 501(c)(3) non-profit animal rescue organization based out of Baton Rouge, LA.

What does this mean? APAWS has no paid board members or staff. We do not have a brick and mortar location. We are supported by generous and loving volunteers who agree to shelter and care for the animals as a temporary placement until the animals find their forever homes.

Our Misson
Since 2004, APAWS has been dedicated to ensuring that all pet animals in and around the Baton Rouge area live in homes that provide for all of the animal’s physical and emotional needs (including love, compassion, daily care and medical care) for the animal’s lifetime. We do understand that things may not always go as planned. APAWS will always provide a safety net for the pets that we adopt out- should something ever happen and they need our assistance again. All animals in our care will be spayed / neutered and up to date on age appropriate vaccinations before adoptions are finalized.

Our Vison
Our main goal has always been to break the stigma around rescue animals and reduce the number of animals that are euthanized in local shelters by proving that you can rescue wonderful dogs of all breeds, sizes, and temperaments. Through our work with both animals and humans, APAWS strives to make Southeast Louisiana a more inclusive environment where everyone can experience the transformative benefits of responsible, humane pet ownership.
