My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Etta (aka Poppy), a fun-loving and super sweet 11 month old Cattle Dog mix who likes long walks and snuggles on the couch. She was found wandering in the woods with her sister, Akai, so needless to say she gets a little nervous around new people and dogs. Slow introductions with lots of treats are best. She’s come leaps and bounds since arriving at her foster home just about a month ago.

She loves her people, and likes to jump up to give hugs (which is super cute), but she’s working on learning more appropriate ways to say hello. She is a medium energy dog who loves her time on the couch and also her playtime. She loves to go on neighborhood walks and hikes through the woods. She is great on the leash, does not pull, and is working on ignoring other dogs and people when on walks. Since she is somewhat fearful of them, she tends to want to bark, but she has made great improvement in a short amount of time. Sometimes she gets distracted by squirrels, but she’s learning to listen. She would be the perfect hiking or walking buddy and currently gets 2-3 walks a day.

She’s good with other dogs and likes a slow introduction. She has learned boundaries with her old grumpy foster brother and plays well with a pup her age. She likes to chase and be chased when she plays and knows when it’s time to take a breather. She would do well in a home with another dog who she can romp and wrestle with. She’s currently staying with a dog-confident cat and is doing great. She does like to chase him sometimes (which the cat likes), so if your cat isn’t into that, then she may not be a good fit. Overall she is very respectful of the dogs and cats she’s met and is very adaptable.

She likes to chew and tear up stuffed animals (and paper), so having a well stocked toy basket and chew sticks around is a must. She’s found a shoe or two, so being sure she has enough to entertain her is important. She will often gather all her toys around her, taking every single one out of the basket and then bask in their glory. She’s nearly potty trained, however she needs some encouragement. She hasn't quite figured out how to alert her foster parents when to go outside, but is getting there. Making sure to let her out at frequent intervals will continue to show her that outside is the only place to potty. She does well in her crate, especially if she’s surrounded by her favorite toys and has a tasty treat or two to enjoy! She has picked up the routine pretty well and is used to going in the crate or staying in the bathroom at night. She is good in the car and likes to sit in the back and look out the window, it seems like she has learned that the car means fun things are about to happen! Overall she is the sweetest and best behaved pup who is doing her best to be a good girl! Any person would be lucky to have her in their family.

Etta (Poppy) is spayed/neutered, microchipped and has received age-appropriate core vaccines.

She is being fostered in Bellingham, WA. If you're interested in meeting Etta (Poppy), please fill out an adoption application on our website: pnwcdr.org/adopt
