My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our grand Zeus will be a pot 'o gold for the right folks. He came to us from an overcrowded Animal Control facility, after his owner became ill. Zeus was very attached to his person and the shelter intake was not easy. Zeus was just one year old when he entered the shelter, and became another homeless rescue statistic.

We loved Zeus from the moment we met him, despite shelter comments that he is suspicious of some strangers. He warmed to us quickly, likely rejoicing in freedom from shelter life. Zeus is a stunning looking character, with a sometimes shy demeanor. He has charmed all of his handlers

We believe Zeus to be a mix of German Shepherd and Alaskan Husky. He has a coat blending the smoky brown, tan and white hues found in both breeds. His soft, thick coat is lustrous to touch and requires regular brushing. He will likely "blow his coat" in spring and fall. We see a hint of the Husky mask and plume tail, as well as the proud German Shepherd stance and buoyant personality.

Zeus is an affectionate dog, and likes a lot of attention. He's not the kind of dog who is going to be happy, relegated to a backyard, and left alone for hours on end. This lack of activity would be a prescription for mischief. Zeus loves to play and is particularly fond of spirited ball games. He relishes human touch, and allows handling from people that he knows, but sometimes will shy away from strangers. Adopters should be prepared to ask strangers to allow Zeus to get to know them slowly. It's unlikely that he would relish a stranger's overzealous bear hug.

Zeus would be the ideal companion to an active single or couple who have large dog experience. At 75 pounds, he is a strong, energetic fellow, who requires at least a couple of brisk leash walks each day, but would thrive as a walking, running or hiking companion. He could easily join a multi-dog home with other well trained dogs. Since he has been with us, Zeus has been quite sociable and has enjoyed contact with other dogs. We have not had him around cats.

Zeus is a smart dog, and has Working Dog DNA. He needs mental stimulation as well as a good physical workout each day. Obedience training is the ideal activity to challenge Zeus in mind and body. He responds well to positive reinforcement and Leadership training techniques. He knows most basic commands. Adopters should be able to handle Zeus with ease right from the beginning.

Zeus has good house manners, and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during his transition to a new home.

At two years old, Zeus is in excellent health, He is not a fan of the Vet's office. Adopters should be prepared to muzzle him before the exam, and ask for experienced Vet Tech support.

Zeus has been neutered and is up to date on all routine vaccinations and health screenings. If you are interested in Zeus, please write to Angelsfrgod@aol.com or call/text Denise at 860-908-9738 for more info.

Additional adoption info

When we receive your completed application we will check your references, including your veterinarian, and then call you to discuss your situation and requirements.. If you are approved for adoption, we can then discuss with you which of the dogs might fit best into your life. We will either arrange for you to visit the dog in its foster home, by appointment, or transport the dog to your home.

To help cover the veterinary expenses of our foster Eskies and to support our rescue effort, Eskies Online will charge you an adoption fee of $350.00. We do not sell dogs. We charge a flat fee--whether the Eskie is a puppy or an older dog; whether it came to us with minimal veterinary needs or requiring major medical care; whether the Eskie makes a short or a long stay in our foster system.

More about this rescue

Eskies Online is a 501(c)(3) Multibreed rescue group that serves unwanted American Eskimos and other dogs in need and finds qualified, permanent, adoptive homes for them. In the foster home environment, we are able to evaluate the dog's temperament and behavior patterns away from the stress of shelter life. Eskies Online is funded entirely through adoption fees, donations and the generosity our volunteers.
