*Dean is currently not living at the shelter but still available for adoption so please email asoanimaladoption@austintexas.gov for next steps, if you are interested in meeting him!*
Look at that smile on Dean’s face! If you could get used to waking up and seeing this happy go lucky guy everyday, you’re in luck because Dean is available for both foster and adoption.
Dean got to AAC on New Years Day. Since then we have observed him to be a great leash walker who checks in with his handler a lot. A volunteer said, “he was very relaxed on our walk, easy to harness, affectionate, and ignored barking dogs.”
This smart guy knows Sit already, and is house trained! Adopting Dean comes with many benefits and we know that with his wit, house trained habits and affectionate nature he is going to be a well mannered guest in his foster or forever home.

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day! For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites. For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.
Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older
