My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Emersyn!

He's a sweet 18-month-old Lab mix weighing 50 lb., who's neutered and housetrained. He loves playing with other dogs, does great walking on a leash, and is kennel-trained. He's a bit shy but he's also very kind and a real sweetheart.

If you ever felt like you didn't fit in, or were in the wrong place, but knew in your heart that somewhere you truly belonged ... keep reading about sweet Emersyn, and please share his story. Let's find his home in 2024.

Emersyn was born in Arkansas and for reasons unknown to rescue, he was relinquished to the shelter at 6 months of age. He laid there, alone on the concrete floor wondering what he had done to deserve such a fate. He had only been kind and gentle with the people. Why hadn't his people wanted him? Maybe they only wanted him when he was a cute puppy... perhaps he had been a Christmas gift and just like the toys strewn about the floor, he was no longer wanted. Why was he not loved like the pictures he had seen on TV, of the dog in front of the fireplace? Maybe he was not worthy. Maybe he just didn't fit in.

Then a wonderful shelter volunteer saw him, and connected with his sweet soul and knew he had to be saved. She reached out to a wonderful Labrador rescue in Colorado and asked that they take him. Hmmm... he doesn't exactly look like a Lab but he is gentle and sweet although shy and timid in the cold, clanky shelter. The rescue agreed to take him in!

Emersyn got his paperwork and loaded on the van to Colorado on a warm spring morning in 2022... the other dogs told him that on this van you go to Colorado and then your forever people will find you! Emersyn's heart burst with joy... his forever people would now be able find him, and he would live that life he had dreamed of - fireplace and all.

But when he got to Colorado, it was busy and crowded and he found the streets scary and the bustling and noise was hard. Wonderful, loving people surrounded him and told Emersyn he was safe and he could stay with his foster people until his perfect, forever home could be found.

But now it has been 1-1/2 years... and his forever home has not found him. We all know his people are out there... but they haven't found him yet. You see, Emersyn's perfect home is not in the city - it's up in the mountains where he has space to run and the only noises are hawks soaring above and elk bugling in the meadows. Emersyn likes open spaces... and the quiet of mountain life. He would also love then to come inside and snuggle on that rug in front of the fire. In fact, he is a perfect gentleman indoors but when outside he delights in the deep smells of nature and watching the clouds pass overhead.

Emersyn LOVES other dogs and needs to go to a home with a friendly resident dog. He loves his people and has a purely gentle soul, but needs a little bit of time to trust strangers.

Please share Emersyn so that his forever people can find him. Although Summit Dog Rescue is stepping in to help find him a great home, you can see Emersyn's full story, photos and videos by going to the amazing Rocky Mountain Lab Rescue's website: https://www.rockymountainlabrescue.com. Additional adoption info

First you must fill out an application which we will review. Then we will do a phone interview, reference check and finally a home visit before a dog is placed in your home. We ONLY adopt to homes where the dog is an indoor dog, part of the family and treated as such. We stress excellent nutrition, proper training and follow up with all our adopters.

We are probably have one of the more thorough and difficult adoption processes... and we love that people want to adopt and don't want to discourage adopters! So please, if you're in a hurry, or not an exceptional furever home - please try other rescues or a SHELTER is a great option too!
