Earl is love. This healthy young hound is such a friendly, gently affectionate, cuddly guy, his name has become an adjective at the shelter! Want to describe a dog whose tail immediately helicopters the second he sees you? That dog is Earl-y! Want to describe a dog who'll gaze longingly into your eyes? That's an Earl-y dog! Want to describe a dog who'll cuddle as close as possible and snuggle his head under your chin? Yup! Totally Earl-y! Earl adores EVERYONE, and he loves other dogs, too! He's just a joyful guy with a heart of gold. When he's not snuggling or playing, he'll stand on the highest spot he can find, searching for buddies to snuggle or play with! We LOVE our Earl! If all goes well and you decide to pursue adoption, you will be asked to complete a pre-adopt. Once your family, including any dogs, have also met with the dog you wish to adopt, your application will be submitted to the Adoption Committee for review. We estimate the pre-adoption process can take up to 14 days or longer.
Please note: AAS is committed to finding the best fit for each of our dogs. For this reason, we will accept multiple applications for a dog. In the case of multiple applications, we will select the applicant that is the best fit based on the needs of the dog.
Adoption fee for puppy/adult dogs is $280.00.
Adoption fee for senior dogs is $140.00.
Dogs qualify as a senior based on their stature/weight and age. The scale below shows the age at which a dog attains “senior” designation:
0-20 lbs: 11 years
21-50: 10 years
51-90: 8 years
91+: 7 years

The purpose of the Society shall be to provide to/and or for animals, other than man, shelter, medical aid, care and protection, to act as a placement agency for animals in good health, and to provide education for the humane care and treatment of animals, and to attempt to prevent cruelty to animals. We are a nonprofit organization that receives no funding from state or federal agencies. All of the funds required to maintain the shelter and care for the dogs come from donations and special fund-raising events. Donations to the shelter are tax deductible.
Our dogs are not euthanized for space. This means that new dogs can only be accepted by the shelter when we have an available kennel.
