My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

An abandoned hunting dog, Toby was tossed out like trash on a lonely rural road.
Given his gentle, affectionate nature, we imagine he was just too sweet to hunt.
Something about this snuggly guy makes us believe that while the other dogs were giving chase, Toby was searching for sunbeams, sniffing flowers, and frolicking with bunnies.
Toby is a goofy, friendly guy who absolutely adores everyone he meets and every morsel of food he's offered.
It's a polite, endearing adoration that makes you want to give him all your love and all the treats in the pantry.

Toby is a survivor. He's not a cute puppy or a lab or a tiny yorkie. He is a survivor.
He was a hunting dog that was dumped in North Carolina - dumped at a common spot for hunting dogs that have served their purpose. He was taken in by a couple that wanted him to have a second, better chance at life.
He was severely underweight and missing hair. They took him to a vet for basic updates and then he made his way to us.
He is heartworm positive and has begun treatment. He is gaining weight and growing hair. He is surviving.
And what we have seen from Toby makes our day and our week. It's the reason we come every day and give all we have.
You look Toby in the eyes and you see right through to his soul. You see the gratitude he has for good food, a warm bed and constant love. You see his will to live and to give that love right back to us.
Toby is goofy and happy. He is curious and loves to watch all of his neighbors. He hopes he is the first one you let out so he can have your undivided attention. And you could sit with him all day - he is just that sweet.
Can you help us find his new family? Please share his story so that his person will realize Toby is the dog they have been waiting for - he has survived this long, let's make the rest of his journey one filled with treats, toys and constant love!
Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!

We estimate the pre-adoption process can take up to 14 days or longer.

Please note: AAS is committed to finding the best fit for each of our dogs. For this reason, we will accept multiple applications for a dog. In the case of multiple applications, we will select the applicant that is the best fit based on the needs of the dog.
