My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Fergie – A True Lady With a Heart of Gold ?

Fergie’s life didn’t begin the way any dog deserves. She was found tied to a post outside a store, shivering in the freezing cold rain, waiting for someone to notice her. Despite the neglect and sadness of that day, Fergie has never let it define her spirit. From the moment she was rescued, she has shown nothing but love, grace, and forgiveness.

Fergie is one of the most extraordinary dogs we’ve had the privilege of knowing. She is smart, gentle, and incredibly kind. She carries herself with a quiet sweetness that makes everyone who meets her fall instantly in love. Fergie especially shines around children—her best friend in foster care is a 9-year-old boy whom she absolutely adores. The bond between them is heartwarming: she listens to him with patience and loyalty, follows his lead, and showers him with endless affection. It’s as if she knows she was meant to love and protect children all along.

She is the kind of dog who seems to understand emotions and situations far deeper than most. Whether she’s happily following her little buddy around the yard, quietly laying by your side, or greeting you with a wagging tail and soft eyes, Fergie has a way of making every moment feel special.

Now, Fergie is ready for her forever family. She longs for a home where she will never again know the cold, the rain, or the loneliness of being left behind. What she deserves is warmth, safety, and the joy of being truly part of a family. In return, she will give you unwavering loyalty, gentleness, and a kind of love that only a dog like Fergie can offer.

?? If you are looking for a family dog who is not only amazing with kids but also full of love, intelligence, and grace, Fergie is waiting to meet you.

Additional adoption info

Our main goal is always to find the very best fit for each of our animals. We take time to get to know every pet in our care—their personalities, needs, and quirks—so we can help match them with the right family.

When you apply to adopt, here’s what you can expect:

Application Review: We carefully look over every application to be sure the home environment matches the pet’s needs.

Conversations, Not Tests: We may ask follow-up questions or chat with you about your lifestyle, schedule, and what you’re hoping for in a pet. This helps us make the best match possible.

Meet & Greet: If it seems like a good fit, we’ll arrange a meeting so you and the animal can get to know each other.

Adoption Agreement: Once approved, we’ll finalize the adoption paperwork and review everything you need to know to help your new pet adjust and thrive.

Our animals have already been through a lot, so we want their next stop to be their forever home. Thank you for understanding that we are always looking out for their best interest—and for opening your heart to adoption.

More about this rescue

At Valley Dog Rescue of Texas, we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to giving abandoned, neglected, and abused animals a second chance at life. Based in the Valley of South Texas, we work tirelessly to rescue dogs who have been forgotten, mistreated, or left behind.

Every animal that comes into our care receives the medical treatment they need, the patience and compassion to heal emotionally, and the opportunity to experience love and safety—often for the very first time. Our ultimate goal is to match each rescued dog with a permanent, loving home where they can truly thrive.

We believe that every life matters and that no animal is beyond hope. Through the dedication of our volunteers, fosters, adopters, and supporters, we are able to transform lives, one rescue at a time.
