My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

LOCATION: Fort Worth, Texas
DOB: 8/8/2021

Those eyes! Talk about baby blues! Hunter, a strikingly handsome Great Dane mix, is a true heart-stealer with his deep love for people, natural protective instinct, and a heart of gold. He’s the perfect addition to any loving home, bringing both beauty and loyalty in equal measure.
His affection for humans is endearing. He adores spending time with his foster family, showering them with loyalty and a watchful eye. Whether he’s cuddling on the couch or following his family around the house, Hunter’s devotion is unwavering.
On the practical side, Hunter is completely potty trained and has proven trustworthy without the need for a crate when unsupervised. He has a playful, silly side that makes him tons of fun. His freedom within the home is expanding gradually, and he's shown obedience and patience, often waiting by the door for his foster family to return.
Hunter is also learning to play peacefully with his canine companions. He’s making progress in redirecting his energy and enthusiasm appropriately, enjoying the company of other dogs and learning to refine his play style. Despite his size, he remains calm around smaller dogs and shows no signs of aggression towards cats. Occasionally, he may give chase, but he responds well to redirection and is learning to be gentle.
Hunter’s early life was undoubtedly challenging, but he’s transitioning remarkably well into a loving home environment. Slow introductions are essential for him to feel comfortable and secure, strengthening the bonds he forms with his new family.
Positives:
• LOVES kids and car rides
• Always up for an adventure but also content lounging with his people
• Does amazing in public
• Non-destructive and free to roam but also prior crate trained
• Protective with a sweet demeanor
• Resilient and completely potty trained
• Enjoys playing with trusted fur companions and has learned to live gently with cats
• Usually waits patiently by the door for his person to come home
• Does well on a leash
Areas for Improvement:
• Gets super excited when his person gets home and jumps up (really to give hugs)
• Needs redirection when play with fur siblings gets too wild
• Can resource guard food, treats, and toys
• Requires tough love, boundaries, and redirection at times

With the right home, this amazing guy’s potential is limitless. He can be high energy and would benefit from a large yard where he can run. Ideally, he would have an active household. He deserves a patient family that can focus on his need for structure and understands that he requires slow introductions- A family that would love to take him on adventures. He will undoubtedly bring so much joy to his forever family.

More about this rescue

To rescue Great Danes from neglect, abuse, and abandonment while providing medical care and individual rehabilitation through our experienced and loving foster home program until we are able to provide each rescued Dane with a qualified, caring, and permanent home that will ensure a good quality of life they deserve.

To assist owners that cannot afford spaying, neutering or heartworm treatment as funds allow while also educating owners on affordable, local spay/neuter clinics, spay/neuter benefits, vaccinations, backyard breeding, behavior, nutrition, and obedience. Additionally, we want to be a link point to other rescues and clubs. Raising awareness around rescues and the Great Dane breed is of great importance to us.

We have been rescuing Great Danes since 2011 and we take pride in the collective love, concern, and dedication we have given to the misunderstood and forgotten Danes. It is our mission to continue to be the voices of the less fortunate Danes and to provide them safety and their birthright to a quality of life filled with love and dignity. You can help us achieve our mission by donating funds, items from our wishlist, items of relevance, your time through volunteering, or by lending your home as a foster.
