When Abe first arrived as a stray, he was a bouncy 8–10 month old pup with endless energy and a sharp mind. Now, at about 2 years old, he’s matured into an incredible dog — still active and driven, but with a sweet, affectionate side that wins over everyone he meets.
We believe Abe may be part Belgian Malinois, and he certainly lives up to the breed’s reputation for intelligence and enthusiasm. He thrives when he has a job to do, and he’s always eager to please his people. Abe gets along wonderfully with his dog friends here at the shelter and would love a canine buddy who matches his playful energy.
Abe is seeking an active, dog-experienced home (no young children, please) where he can keep learning, adventuring, and showing off his smarts. In the right hands, Abe will be the most loyal and loving companion you could ask for.

Established in 1999, The Shelter Connection is a 501c3 volunteer organization at the Town of North Hempstead Animal Shelter. Our mission, in partnership with the Town, is to improve the quality of life for the dogs at the shelter and increase adoptions through training and socialization.
