My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hey everybody, meet Ricky Bobby! This very handsome, 3-year-old boy thinks he is a runway model, and everyone should stop, look, and adore him. He is a bit of an odd guy; he has a couple of quirks, and his previous years may not have been so good to him. Don't get us wrong, he is definitely a sweetheart, but he is unsure if it is ok to be a sweetheart. He is a talker and a grumbler if he doesn't get his way. He doesn't lash out or act out but will let you know if he's displeased. He's good around most other dogs but doesn't care for intact males. Strangely, he's not much into playing with other dogs. He's in daycare, but after an initial run, or strut as it may be, he hangs out and observes. He can get bored, and if he doesn't find something, or someone, to provide some fun, he may try to climb the wall or fence to find it himself. His foster Mom and daycare staff are working on this, and he's getting better about staying on the ground. Of course, getting more exercise and mental stimulation will help immensely with this behavior. He has been raised with a heavy hand, and quick movements around his head make him cringe. Soft petting and sweet talk are helping him understand that hands are for good, not bad. He came to us with very poor door/gate manners and will try to run past when doors or gates open. He is being trained to stop that bad habit. He came from a home with children, so we know he's ok with kids, but we are unsure of their ages. We don't know how he would be around cats or small dogs. We also do not know if he is crate trained as we've not needed to crate him. He can and will ask for love and like his humans nearby. He will grumble if he's being hugged but walk away if he feels uncomfortable. He will give soft kisses upon occasion but frequently backs off as if that kind of love is not allowed. Working on that, too. Having a 6ft fenced-in yard would be optimal, but he could be put on a tie-out as long as he is monitored as he may think to chew through it until he knows he's safe and home. Another dog would be fine, but it should be a fairly laid-back dog who can match his energy. So, the perfect person or family for Ricky Bobby would be active and enjoy walking/hiking or bike riding so he can release some Husky energy and strut his stuff. Someone to train him to do some tricks or extend his knowledge of basic commands would be great for his mind, which can also be a great release. Someone willing to put in the time to make him the best dog he can be. Someone to let him know he is loved and respected. Could you be his person?

Ricky Bobby is in a foster home located in South Lyon, MI

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Application:

The first step for adoption is the application. Filling out the detailed application lets us know which husky would be a good fit for your family. We think all of our dogs are perfect the way they are, but every home is not. This is why they have ended up with us. We are very thorough with this step. The first thing we do is review your application, if your veterinary references are up to par then we reach out to be sure you're still interested. Next, we contact the personal references, so please be prepared. It helps speed the process if you let your veterinarian and personal references know we will be contacting them. This step can take up to 1-2 weeks, although we try to get through it sooner.

Home Visit:

We will set up a good time with you for one of our volunteers to come meet with you. They interview all the household members, and make sure a Siberian Husky is suited for you. They will also help you understand the breed, and what they need as far as a family.

Meet & Greet:

After you have been approved for adoption, we can set you up to meet the dogs! You must bring any current pets to make sure they will get along. We have a network of foster homes, so it is preferred that you are willing to drive to meet any specific dog you are interested in. If for any specific reason you are not able to drive, transportation can usually be arraigned through volunteers, by a case-by-case basis.

More about this rescue

The mission of the Hairy Houdini Siberian Husky Rescue is to help Siberian Huskies and Husky mixes in need and educate about the proper care of the breed.

We are a foster home-based rescue organization serving all of Michigan. Once the dogs are in our care, they get completely vetted, altered, micro-chipped, temperament tested, monitored and cared for by our wonderful foster program. Once we have matched the personality of the dog with the perfect home, they get adopted! Application, home visit, contract and adoption donation apply.
