My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

His name is Indigo Montoya! This good-looking, 5-year-old boy is a real catch and has a ton of wonderful traits. He is very affectionate, loves being petted, snuggling, and cuddling, and constantly wags his tail. He is a talker and singer and will talk to you when he needs to go outside to the bathroom, when hungry, or when he is excited to go for a walk. He loves sleeping on a dog bed but prefers to be on the sofa beside humans. He is good at walking on a leash; he doesn't pull hard, but he does sway from side to side and needs to sniff everything. He is respectful of not pulling on the leash and slows down on command. He travels great in the car, loves long walks, and really enjoys hanging out/playing with kids and other dogs. He likes to wrestle and romp with his canine friends, so a younger, active dog would be the perfect companion for him, but older dogs are okay, too. He also likes to wrestle, play hide and seek, and tug with his humans. He has a "soft" play bite, but sometimes he forgets the "soft" part, so older kids may be better playmates. He has been trained for an e-fence, and his foster family is giving him a refresher course on fence manners, and he's doing great. Indigo is crate-trained, does not counter surf, has no food aggression, and does not seem to be a digger. He does have a few issues to look out for.....he does not always come when called in the yard and will do the Husky "fly by," and he seems pretty proud of it. Due to this, he does wear a training lead in the yard and, once caught, is quick to obey. We think he can be trained out of this, but he may be difficult to wrangle at a dog park at this time. Also, if he should escape the house or yard, he's not likely to come right back when called, if at all. He does have GPS in his collar just in case, but he doesn't door or gate crash as a rule. He is a freak when it comes to toys, and he destroys any fabric toy he can. Not only does he rip out the stuffing and squeakers, but he also wants to eat the fabric, so you'll not be able to leave destroyed toys around. Ropes should probably not be left with him, either, unless supervised. So, as you can see, Indigo is a pretty special dog. He's a fun, loving, smart, sweet companion who needs a little work on a few things to be the best boy he can be. So, who is ready to meet their new best friend?! Inigo is in a foster home located in Rochester Hills, MI.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Application:

The first step for adoption is the application. Filling out the detailed application lets us know which husky would be a good fit for your family. We think all of our dogs are perfect the way they are, but every home is not. This is why they have ended up with us. We are very thorough with this step. The first thing we do is review your application, if your veterinary references are up to par then we reach out to be sure you're still interested. Next, we contact the personal references, so please be prepared. It helps speed the process if you let your veterinarian and personal references know we will be contacting them. This step can take up to 1-2 weeks, although we try to get through it sooner.

Home Visit:

We will set up a good time with you for one of our volunteers to come meet with you. They interview all the household members, and make sure a Siberian Husky is suited for you. They will also help you understand the breed, and what they need as far as a family.

Meet & Greet:

After you have been approved for adoption, we can set you up to meet the dogs! You must bring any current pets to make sure they will get along. We have a network of foster homes, so it is preferred that you are willing to drive to meet any specific dog you are interested in. If for any specific reason you are not able to drive, transportation can usually be arraigned through volunteers, by a case-by-case basis.
