Pumpkins's New Year's resolution ?....no more punkin pies!! We don't know where she spent the holidays... But they must have had a yummy buffet. 71 pounds? What the what?? She's set her goal: 2024 will be the year to get in shape and start an exciting exercise program. She's determined to get her figure back. Who can help her?? 📞Calling all dedicated and self disciplined pet owners that will be willing to help this girl get in shape!! Her ideal weight would be between 50-60 pounds. She is a beautiful girl and is very friendly. She has a lot to say to you if you try to walk by her kennel without looking at her or taking her out. She will let you know she needs you. If you explain to her that you are on an errand and will be back she understands. She has nice manners and walks well. Here are some comments from her fans: "Pumpkin was my favorite walk of the day. She is very excitable and a lot of fun. She will need her new family to help her channel her excitement and be her best self. Her level of excitement might be a lot for other animals to handle, so meet and greets would be necessary to determine if she can do well with siblings. She is a very active, joyful, and playful girl looking for her new family that will love her forever. We aren't sure why her tail was DOCKED or she is overweight, but we want to get her healthy and give her the best life possible. Please check her out. Adoption fee includes basic vaccinations, worming, flea treatment, feline-leukemia/FIV test, heartworm test, spay/neuter (done prior to leaving), rabies vaccination and a microchip
There is a contract and all potential adopters meet with adoption counselor to talk about application and make sure pet is good fit with the person and family. A "meet and greet" is required with all family members and the pet prior to finalizing the adoption application. If someone is adopting a dog and has another dog at home, we also require a "meet and greet" for the dogs as well. All animals in the home must be up to date on vaccinations prior to new pet going home. We do not adopt to people who will keep the pet outside exclusively. We may do a home visit either pre or post-adoption. Animals adopted from us are not be sold or given to another person. We verify all information on the adoption application and may deny an application with any false information on it. A follow up call or visit is done on all adoptions within first 30 days of adoption.

Our adoption fees are as follows:
Puppy (0-12 months): $200
Adult Dog (1-5 years): $175
Senior Dog (6+ years): $85
Senior to Senior Program: any person over 65 yrs of age wanting to adopt any pet over 7 yrs of age: adoption fee is waived

The Humane Society of Wicomico County was started in 1968 by a group of people who wanted to help improve the lives of animals. We have come a long way in our 40+ years! We have a staff dedicated to making sure the animals that come to our doors are loved and protected as they wait for their forever home. Not only are our animals vaccinated, wormed and given flea preventative, we can treat animals that come to us with mange, ringworm, heartworm and pay for animals to be seen by an outside vet should there be a need. We have an on-site spay/neuter clinic that not only is used for our animals but we also offer low cost spay/neuter for animals of the public. We provide emergency boarding for victims of domestic abuse, fire, and medical emergencies. We also have the capability to set up an off-site emergency shelter for people evacuated from their homes. In addition, we have an education program to help teach kids about being a responsible pet guardian. We work with a wide range of rescue groups and our animals have been transported from our mid-Atlantic area throughout the North Eastern United States. Our shelter is an open admission shelter and we will take in approximately 3500 animals this year. We do what we do because of our love for animals and our desire to make a difference in their lives every single day.
