My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

PLEASE NOTE- AN APPLICATION FROM THE WEBSITE ALMOSTHOMEDOGS.ORG IS REQUIRED prior to any meet and greet. Calling, emailing and using the “contact us” link is not useful and will delay your consideration in the adoption of the dog. Petfinder inquires are not sent to us.

Karla is a very special dog looking for a very special adopter. Karla did not have a great start to life. She spent the first 4-5 years of her life breeding puppies to be sold. Now that she has been rescued, she is slowly learning how to be a dog in a home. Karla's past has left her scared of humans. She may bark a bit at new people, and likes to guard the front door in true pomeranian fashion. However, she doesn't snap or try to bite. Karla is not ready to be pet or cuddled, but with warning she will allow herself to be picked up as needed. She may even snuggle up during a scary storm. She does not run or hide under furniture; you can always pick her up if you need to. Karla does very well with other small dogs. She seems to have a special affinity for puppies. She is still learning how to play and would do best in a home with at least one other small dog to show her the ropes. She also loves treats and chews. Karla is very affectionate in her own way and has a big personality. Karla is struggling with potty training, but mostly uses reusable cloth pee pads. She will go outside, but not consistently. She also has not graduated to walking on a leash outside. We can talk about strategies to start working on this. Karla would do best in a quiet home with 1-2 adults and at least 1 small dog. She likes to be with her human, so would do best with someone who is home a lot. She would also benefit from a fenced yard. An apartment or condo would not be appropriate, she may bark when you leave. Overall, she really is a very sweet dog with a fun personality. Watching her discover new things can be very rewarding for the right adopter and you will be really making a difference in this sweet dog's life.

The adoption fee is $425, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including age appropriate vaccinations, worming, flea/tick preventative and spay/neuter. All of our dogs will be microchipped.

Because our dogs are in foster homes, applications are required prior to setting up any appointments. Calling or emailing may delay your consideration. Find our application on our website, almosthomedogs.org, then click on "Adopt" tab at top

We are a non profit no kill 501 (c)3 rescue. Please understand that we do our best to describe our dogs but often we rescue them with virtually no information about them and often our best educated guess can be challenging. Currently check, cash or venmo is preferred payment.
