Nugget came to the shelter from county animal control. He was 7 lbs, and estimated to be around 2 months old. He was in pretty bad shape (severe bloating, horrible skin condition, a perforated corneal ulcer in one eye, and multiple bite wounds all over his body). We didn’t think he would survive, but he started recovering after a couple days in the shelter, so we pulled him into our rescue group. His injured eye was not salvageable and was removed by our vet. His skin condition greatly improved and the wounds healed.

We originally thought he was likely a Chihuahua mix, until he started doubling, tripling, quadrupling in size. DNA testing determined that he is a Shepherd / Pitbull / Husky mix. Not sure how big he will eventually get. Nugget isn’t “into people” like you would expect a puppy to be, probably due to his past. He enjoys the company of other dogs, particularly his foster brother, Roth, who is also a puppy about the same age and size. However, Nugget has bonded with is foster dad, and when all the playing settles down, he will snuggle with his human. We are still working on leash skills (so far, he isn’t into walking on leash, but that should be fixable, especially with another dog in the home who is good on a leash)

Nugget needs a home with another playful dog(s), probably close to his size or larger (initially,he can be a little intimidated by large dogs, but with the right dog and a well thought out introduction, he should do great). Potential adopters must own their home with a good size fenced-in backyard.

Please note that we don’t adopt any of our dogs out to homes with children under the age of 13.
