My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Knock, knock... Who's there?:  Woody.  Woody who?:  Wonderful Woody!  SSR rescued Woody from a TX high kill shelter.  He had been there since November 2023.   He is now safe and enjoying life with a foster in WVA.  He would love life if he could find his forever family! Woody is such a handsome, friendly, outgoing, smart, and a lil goofy fella! He loves attention, squeaky balls and is obsessed with his toys. He is food motivated and takes treats nicely. Woody gets along great with large dogs.  He hasn't been introduced yet to smaller pups.  Woody does have a good bit of prey drive, so we feel small animals like cats are not a good idea. The dogs he is living with are older and they find Woody can be a bit overwhelming with his energy sometimes.  Woody has met older children 10+ and he just adores them.  He's probably a bit too bouncy for the littles. He is learning to walk nicely on the leash. He knows "sit" and "leave it". Woody is steadily gaining needed weight and will fill out to be a big boy. He is neutered. Woody is heartworm negative, up to date on shots, and is on heartworm/flea/tick preventive.  He would do well with a large dog of similar age to play with.  He would probably be fine as an only dog with an active family, so he gets the exercise he needs.  He loves to run so a fenced yard is preferable.   Are you ready to make Wonderful Woody your very own?

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The first step to adopt one of our dogs is to complete an adoption application. Once you have submitted your application, a volunteer with call your personal and veterinary references. Following references, SSR will send out a volunteer to conduct a home visit and meet any members of your household. We come to your home and further discuss the adoption process.

The adoption application will let us know a little bit about you, your home, your lifestyle and what you are looking for in a companion. Anyone over the age of 18 is welcome to fill out our application to adopt one of our dogs. Your application will either be accepted or denied after the volunteer submits a home visit report.

ADOPTION FEES
There is a non-refundable application fee of $15.
Our adoption fee is $300 for dogs aged 6 and under.
Our adoption fee is $225 for dogs 7 and up.

More about this rescue

Shenandoah Shepherd Rescue is an all-volunteer rescue focused primarily on the rescue of German Shepherds. We are based out of the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia, but expand our reach and work to save German Shepherds in heavily populated areas throughout the country. While our rescue is a new organization, our volunteers have been rescuing German Shepherds for many years. Our hope is to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome every German Shepherd in need.
