My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Shae is so friendly and loving that under normal circumstances, she would have found a home immediately but this special girl has a difficult medical condition, and we genuinely don’t know if there’s an adopter who’s up to taking her home — but we’re hoping with all our hearts that they’re out there. Shae's condition causes her bladder to leak small amounts of urine throughout the day, and it's very likely that it will never improve. For Shae to live a happy life, her adopter would need a dedicated space in their home that's easy to clean, but wouldn't leave her too isolated from her people – because for Shae, people are her whole entire world.

We've rescued a lot of pets over the years, and this sweet soul is one of the most gentle, affectionate cats to come through our doors. Shae loves every person she meets unconditionally, and will climb into your arms without hesitation whether she's known you for five years or five minutes. Once she's there, she'll stay with you for hours, gazing into your eyes and making biscuits in utter bliss. And while she's best known for her snuggles, Shae has a not-so-secret silly side when the toys come out, and will ham it up with the best of them despite having some poor mobility in her back legs. She'll dive and slide, chasing her the toy and when the play session is over, she'll climb into your lap and give you the best head bonk! She also rolls on her back for belly rubs, gives kisses, and purrs like an engine!

This beautiful calico has lived with dogs of all sizes before and she's even met a few at the shelter and did very well. She's so easy going that she would likely also do ok with cats!

To put it simply, we adore this cat. Closing the door to her room at the shelter and walking away at the end of each night is one of the hardest parts of the day.  All Shae wants is love, and she is desperate to leave the shelter so she can find it.

Her ideal home would provide her a low sided litter box for easy entry, ensure she has limited access to stairs and be willing to work with her through her urinary issues! While she uses the litter box well, she also leaks urine which means she is looking for someone who can routinely keep her and her space clean. She would also benefit from a family that can help her maintain weight loss so she doesn't put extra pressure on her hind legs. And if possible (but not required), an adopter could pursue seeing urinary specialist to see if there are any other treatment options or surgeries that we haven't tried. If you're looking for a loving companion and willing to do a little extra work, Shae is your girl!

Shae's needs may be greater than most, but so is her capacity for love. If you think you might be the special person that four year old Shae is looking for, we would be thrilled to tell you all about her. Please reach out to us at adoptions@phillypaws.org with Shae's name in the subject line, and a staff member will be in touch as quickly as possible.
