My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Chonk has had a run of bad luck and was found wandering the streets after being hit by a car, but luckily he's done an amazing job of healing with intervention from Austin Pets Alive. After surgeries and x-rays and months of rehabilitation, Chonk is ready to meet his forever family and start his new life!

Chonk has been with his foster family for over a year now and has been a wonderful guest! He plays great and is very gentle and patient with his smaller foster dog brother and doesn't hassle his elderly foster dog sister. He's very curious about the resident cat, but she has her area and he has his, and he's very out of sight out of mind with his attention.

He's never met a stranger he didn't like and will love you right away! He continues to charm and melt with every person he encounters. He's still a big puppy so loves to play and cuddle and gnaw on his toys, he's very food motivated and incredibly smart, so will be easy to train. He does great in the car and loves to lay in the sun outside or under a window, and in the winter he loves to nap near a space heater.

Because of his injuries, his medical future was uncertain for a long time but it’s been determined that Chonk has a common orthopedic condition called patellar luxation – basically, he’s got loose kneecaps and will likely always have a bit of a limp and need to keep his physical activity somewhat low. He does fine with the half staircase in and out of his foster home and he loves a daily walk around the block but not much further, he loves to roll around on the floor with a dog friend. He’ll get in a wild mood and get the zoomies in the backyard here and there and, if you’ll allow it, he’s never missed an opportunity to jump onto the couch. His condition doesn’t affect his day to day life much at all and the only treatment still needed is pain management here and there if his kneecaps are acting up, but he’ll gobble up a pill with his food no problem.

Chonk really is a special guy. He’s great with kids and other dogs, he’s crate trained and has a sweet, affectionate disposition, he’s funny and smart and has a really big personality. Once you get a look into his smart sweet eyes and feel the weight of his big old head on your knee looking up at you with all that love, you'll never want to be apart from him again!
