My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Introducing Jake!

This little man is Jake, and he’s had quite the ride in life! Jake’s daddy passed away last year, and unfortunately he found himself locked in a room for the next four months with food being thrown in once a week. A good samaritan thankfully intervened and Jake found himself in CRTs care at 7 years old.

Jake has gone through a lot of vet care in his time with CRT! When he joined us he was bald, had skin infections, a lame leg, and a massive ear infection. Turns out, Jake has major allergies that were impacting both his skin and ears. Jake had already had one ear canal removed prior to finding himself in our care, and thanks to the diligent care of our vet team we were able to save his second ear!

As for the leg, that was an old dislocation that was never treated and so after trying to manage his pain for months Jake found himself a spectacular tripod! Don’t feel bad for Jake, he’s actually faster and more mobile now without the bad leg! This boy runs, has figured out how to climb and dig without one of his front legs, and is a happy goober! He's also happily put some weight on and is finally 12 pounds!!

Jake will need ongoing care for his allergies, and due to them a good dermatologist is a must as his care will need to be tweaked as time goes by! Jake currently gets allergy meds, has daily allergy immunotherapy meds, and gets a vegetarian hydrolyzed kibble as he’s allergic to every meat protein we’ve tried.

Due to the experience he had prior to joining CRT, Jake does have separation anxiety. He will destroy plastic and wood crates, will tear himself up with a regular wire crate, and isn’t shy about eating your door if you dare to lock him in a room! On the positive side, Jake does great at his foster home if he’s left loose in the living room with his foster siblings when mom leaves. She does have to lock down the kitchen with gates so he doesn’t go grocery shopping, but thats an easy fix!

Jake is all terrier in terms of temperament. He loves to chase critters, so cats aren’t recommended. He loves to dig in the yard, so if you garden he’s your happy assistant. And Jake gives the absolute best hugs! He’s a huge snuggle bug, sleeps happily under the covers at night and is house trained! Oh, and he walks on a leash though he needs some reminding occasionally that he doesn’t control where we walk! He also ADORES his foster siblings and is looking for a home with a playmate!

If you have a space to run, a securely fenced in yard, and are dedicated to providing Jake the medical care he needs, Jake will be an amazing addition to your home!

One important thing to note about Jake is that he is a flight risk. He will need to go to a home with a fenced in yard, as he’s prone to running just to have fun. Due to his flight risk designation, he will need either a smart tag or apple air tag at adoption just in case he gets out. The rescue can provide one for a small donation, or his family can come prepared with their preference!

He is neutered, UTD on vaccines, HW Negative and on HW preventative.

His adoption donation is $300.00.

If you are interested in the above dog, please do not email us and tell us that you are interested, but submit an adoption application. The link for the application is below.

To submit an application go here……chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/

An application must be submitted and approved before a meet-n-greet can be scheduled.

Your current dogs/cats must be spayed or neutered unless a veterinarian has determined that your current pet(s) should not be fixed due to medical reasons. They must also be up-to-date on shots and on HW preventative.

Reference checks and a home visit are required so SE dogs can only be adopted in NC/SC, VA, TN, AL, MD and GA.

Additional adoption info

If you are interested in one of our dogs, please submit an application.

We require an adoption application, reference checks and home visit before adoption.

We also require that all current pets be UTD on shots, on HW preventative and spayed/neutered. Adoption fee is $250.00 for Chi's over 1 year of age and $300 for Chi's under 1 year of age. Other adoption listings are priced as is.

We do not set up a meet-n-greet with a dog without an approved application and a completed home visit. The process starts with an application on line and when the application and references have been checked, a home visit is required. After the HV report has been reviewed by our board, a meet-n-greet will be set up.
