Bernie is a beautiful, 10 year old Chihuahua who was unceremoniously dumped at the shelter by his former human terrified and alone. With the love of a committed foster, we are learning more about this special boy as he unfolds himself like an onion to us one layer at a time.
Bernie is generally gentle and calm and loves to den under the blankets with his human. He is starting to play with toys also whether by himself or with another small dog or human. He is soft like velvet and his beautiful dark eyes tell of a past we will never know but we know he deserves to live his golden years with love and safety.
Bernie does best with female energy and should not be in a home with young children as he does have a bite history (this behavior is improving dramatically with consistent love chipping away at his fear of abandonment and pain again).

Interview
We will contact you via email to let you know if the dog is still available and to book a telephone call interview.

Meet the Pet
We'll invite you to meet the dog at a fair, or in some cases at the foster's home. Dogs over 6mos will go to a 1 week adoption trial.

Home Check
When the pup is in your home we'll follow up to see how it's going and volunteer will visit you for a home check
5.
Sign Adoption Contract
If all goes well you'll come to our next adoption fair to FINALIZE! Pay the fee, sign the contract, get your photo!

Dogs Without Borders screens potential applicants to make sure the dog is right fit for their home. We require an adoption application and a home-check. Our adoption fees are $325 for dogs over 1 year, $350 for puppies 6months - 1 year, and $425 for puppies under 6 months. All dogs are spayed/ neutered, vaccinated and microchipped prior to adoption. We also give new owners an ID tag.
