My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Tony Tiger is a very special boy. When he first came to the shelter, he was terrified. Very untrusting and very unsure. With the hard work of staff and volunteers, Tony Tiger has truly blossomed into a loving, fun, gentle dog. Though he can still show some timidity in his kennel, he is completely different once out and about!

When Tony Tiger leaves his kennel, he is always excited to go play in the yard. He may initially jump up, but is easily redirected and always settles. He enjoys playing a good game of fetch and soliciting attention from his human. It'd be easy to train Tony as he is motivated by treats, toys, and praise! You can sometimes find Tony Tiger resting his sweet head in the lap of volunteers and staff.

On a Dog Day Out, Tony Tiger did beautifully in public. Though he initially pulls on leash, he settles into a nice pace making it easy to walk him through a store or restaurant. He does pull for a good sniff, though! Tony surprised us by being eager to meet new people! He was very sweet and gentle when greeting people and making new friends. We suspect he'd make a wonderful coffee shop companion or brewery buddy!

Tony Tiger is an overall quiet boy who doesn't protest to much. On his Dog Day Out, he did not bark at strangers or other dogs. He also rode beautifully in the car, simply enjoying the ride and looking forward to his next destination.

Tony Tiger is listed as Adult-Only Home Preferred due to how truly scared he was when first coming to the shelter. He has not shown any aggression towards children; we simply want him to be able to unwind in a more quiet home since his transition to the shelter was initially so difficult for him. As stated above, Tony Tiger has since come out of his shell and proven what a sweet, playful guy he is.

Though he has not been tested with another dog, he has had positive interactions with other dogs through a fence. As always, we strongly recommend bringing any resident dogs in for a meet and greet to be sure it's a good match. When bringing resident dogs to the shelter, please be sure to bring proof of Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella vaccines.

To meet our special boy Tony Tiger, come to Guilford County Animal Services between 12 and 4 any day except Tuesdays! If interested in fostering this handsome boy, reach out to Kendelle at kfederico@guilfordcountync.gov.
