This helps Pep's Pals Rescue with pet care costs.
Oso is a 5-year-old male shepherd/black mouth cur mix, weighing around 90 pounds. We rescued him and his son, Lobo, from a high kill shelter in Texas. This well-behaved companion has shown no destructive tendencies inside or outside his foster's home. He is both crate and potty trained, rarely barking except when outside at other dogs. Oso sleeps peacefully in his crate at night and is a good traveler in the car. He is selective with other dogs, preferring to be the only one at home or possibly sharing space with a large breed female or his son Lobo. Cats and small dogs are not suitable companions, and children in the home should be teenagers familiar with large dogs.
With a moderate activity level, Oso enjoys walks of various lengths, but it's uncertain whether he's suitable for hiking or running. A fenced yard is essential as he isn't trained to be off-leash and is also strong on leash. Oso responds to commands like “sit,” “stay,” “come,” “off,” (for not jumping on his humans), and “heel” (for leash walking), but hasn't grasped "down" for laying down yet.
Despite overcoming heartworm disease with comprehensive treatment, including medication and injections, Oso is now healthy with no complications. His ideal forever home would be with a single person, a couple, or a family with older children, where he can be the sole recipient of attention and care. Oso is eagerly seeking his forever home with someone ready to love and care for him throughout his life. Could that be you?
He is up to date on vaccinations, on monthly heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, microchipped, has been dewormed multiple times, heartworm negative, and is neutered.
FYI: The adoption fee covers transport & health certificate costs to adopters in the DMV/PA/other north east states. The dog is currently in Texas in a temporary foster home, but our transporters do runs every 2 weeks.
