My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

UPDATE 3-31-24: Wonton is the cutest boy we've seen in a long time. He did great on his dog assessment! We're so happy for him! He still struggles being left alone, so he needs an adopter dedicated to slowly acclimating him to that. Wonton's adoption fee includes one month of support for a CSAT (certified separation anxiety trainer) in addition to the extensive SDR behavior support that we provide to all our dogs.

"Hi, nice to meet you! The shelter I came from named me Wonton. Have you seen the previews for the new movie, Arthur the King? That dog looks just like me, and my heart is as big as his!
"I'm a cuddly guy and love all people. I like big people, small people, hat-wearing people and any gender of people. I don't discriminate at all.
"I love people who laugh and are joyful! But I'm also okay if you are one of those people that are sad a lot --- I'll make you feel better. I could be your therapy dog, as long as you'll love me as much as I love you.
"I'm looking for my forever home. My life was probably hard before coming into my foster home and I spent most of my life being left outside... away from my people. Now my ideal home would have humans around most of the time. My foster mom and the rescue folks are helping me learn that I am okay alone at home."
Love, Wonton

Meet Wonton! This sweet boy charms everyone he meets. He's an incredibly special guy who was lucky enough to be saved from euthanasia by SDR, and we are now working to find him his forever home!

He's a Wheaten or maybe Airdale mix weighing 56 lbs. He's neutered, vaccinated, and very cuddly and friendly. He meets all new people with a sweet demeanor and immediately considers you part of his family. He's mellow and chill inside, and doesn't have big exercise needs (although he would be a great hiking dog we think). If you look up a Wheatador (Labrador/Wheaten mix) they look like him, but we aren't sure if he is Wheaten and Poodle or Wheaten and Lab or what. No DNA test yet.

Wonton is housetrained and incredibly smart. He loves to do training games and sit with his people while they work on the computer/watch TV, etc. He will make an incredible dog for the right person! We'll work with whoever adopts him to teach them all the training games that Wonton knows.

His ideal home would have some sort of yard, and a person home a decent amount of the time... he really is a social guy and can struggle a little being left alone. We are working with him and he is learning it is okay to be alone for short periods.

We are sure he'll enjoy hiking and romping outdoors.

Wonton seems to be excited when he sees other dogs, but we are working with him to teach him to be calm and relaxed when out and about. We all love him, he has a huge heart and is very smart. We have not seen him around cats, but he does "love" squirrels and rabbits (he is a Terrier). If you have cats, you'd need to be super committed to working on integration with no guarantees. We'd probably prefer a no cat home - but like all things, it depends.

Additional adoption info

First you must fill out an application which we will review. Then we will do a phone interview, reference check and finally a home visit before a dog is placed in your home. We ONLY adopt to homes where the dog is an indoor dog, part of the family and treated as such. We stress excellent nutrition, proper training and follow up with all our adopters.

We are probably have one of the more thorough and difficult adoption processes... and we love that people want to adopt and don't want to discourage adopters! So please, if you're in a hurry, or not an exceptional furever home - please try other rescues or a SHELTER is a great option too!
