My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Melody is the perfect mix of playful and nap-ful! Whether she's staring at you with her one curious eyebrow, or dreaming the day away, Melly has so much love to give and is excited to meet her forever family. Melody's ideal day would include cuddling up with you on the couch or bed, having a play session of fetch or tug, and showering you with kisses after getting a treat like a pup cup or some hot dog slices. She also loves pets, and will roll over to get belly rubs. She has grown so much during her time as my foster dog, and I know she will only continue to blossom more with her adopters.

Most of the day, all Melody is looking for is a comfy place to hang out with you! She naps really hard and is often found having dreamies with foot and mouth twitches, and even the occasional tail wag! You may even have to search out this sleepy queen and wake her up for a meal. She's very polite when taking treats and in the kitchen when it comes to human food.
Playing fetch is one of Melody's favorite activities, and she's great at bringing her squeaker back to you. Check out the video to see her play fetch! Mel can get a little mouthy with her play, but is easily redirected to a toy, and will even go get a toy to hold when she's feeling 'big feelings' like when one of her foster parents gets home.

Walks with Melody have been easy as she is great at keeping a loose leash, and although she does show interest in strangers and dogs, she generally does not pull. She appreciates shorter, leisurely walks where she can stop and enjoy all the neighborhood smells, including spring flowers! She does not seem to mind any of the city noises (traffic, people, trains), though sometimes a passing bus will surprise her and she may jump. She's great at checking in with her humans on walks, and has grown in her confidence since her nervous days in the shelter. She sometimes will "borf" at trucks or neighbors outside the window, but can easily be redirected with a toy or some pets. Melody is not at all destructive with toys or furniture if left alone free roaming, but she can get a little vocal wondering where you are so we are working with her to understand that her humans will always come back!

Melody is working on strengthening her commands and is very treat motivated. She has already mastered sit and stay, and we are now working on "look" or "leave it." She does well in the car. We are working on crate training with Melody and she is housebroken and tolerant of handling.

Check out more of Melody on Instagram at @moons.foster.friends or reach out to her foster parent Kerianne (kerianne.chen@gmail.com) with any questions or if you're interested in taking home this lovely girl!

Behavioral:
Per Volunteer 2/28/24:
So sweet again tonight, and came out of her shell a bit more! She is so good for leashing and a dream to walk on leash. Outside in the play yard she got some zoomies and did a few play bows which was so cute! While we were approaching the play yard, another dog got off leash and charged Melody. She didn't react at all and remained very loose.

Per Volunteer 2/22/24:
So sweet and easy again tonight!! Easy to leash and very nice on leash. Sooo gentle with handling and taking treats. Knows sit. Less skittish today than she was on Monday!

Per Volunteer 2/19/24:
Melody was such a sweet girl for me today! She was very easy to leash and walk, she's gentle without any pulling and nice manners. She was curious sniffing around the play yard but always came back to check in with me. loves treats and takes them very gently! Allowed me to put a bandana on for some photos. She was shy at first but opened up during the walk and became affectionate, giving me kisses and cuddles. Sweet lady!! no issues going back into kennel

Per Staff 2/11/24:
Eval 2/11: No kids due to reaction to tail being touched (growling, whale eye)

More about this shelter

The Animal Care & Control Team of Philadelphia (ACCT Philly) is the region’s largest animal care and control service provider. ACCT Philly is an independent, 501c3 nonprofit organization, contracted by the City of Philadelphia to provide animal control services. Our animal control officers provide service over 142.6 square miles to the city’s more than 1.5 million residents and ACCT Philly’s facility in North Philadelphia handles more than 17,000 of the city’s animals, from dogs and cats, to small animals, reptiles, birds and wildlife, annually.

In addition to animal control and sheltering, ACCT Philly is open 365 days a year for pet adoptions. ACCT Philly also supports a foster care program where community members provide temporary homes for sheltered animals and one of the (if not THE) most extensive rescue partnership program in the country where approved rescue partners accept ACCT Philly animals into their adoption programs. Under contract ACCT Philly’s Animal Control Officers provide animal control services and code enforcement.
