My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Eclectus, male Hatch date: 09/24/1987, 36 years Cage size requirement: 36" wide x 28" deep. An even better choice is 40" x 30"

STOP! Have you previously owned or cared for an Eclectus or other parrot? Eclectus parrots are friendly and intelligent birds, they are social birds and want interaction with their family. They are sensitive and may become stressed if neglected. They are messy eaters. Much of their food will end up at the bottom of their cage or on the floor. Cleaning up after parrots is a daily responsibility. They can bite. They will bite. This is not a pet for small children. They can be very LOUD therefore not a good pet for apartment dwelling. With good care, they may live 30-50 years. An owner should have a care plan in place in the event the bird outlives the owner. It’s important to have a veterinarian experienced with exotic/avian care.

Rickie is a shy bird and he loves attention, though isn't a "cuddly" bird. He'll need adjustment time to learn to trust a new person in his life. He does know "step up" and will happily climb around inside and outside his cage. A clever fellow, he can say, "hi Rickie" and rarely "I love you" (the latter generally said very quietly. He has a few other words that he shares on occasion, He does have a VERY LOUD squawk that will certainly get your attention as well as that of any close neighbors, though it's not his frequent vocalization.

Rickie has had some stress in his lifetime and is a plucker, particularly his belly. Otherwise he has beautiful emerald green feathers with an iridescence that doesn't show in his photos. Rickie has a perfect candy corn beak. He's a sweet natured boy that with patience and positive reinforcement training could be your devoted companion.

At the time you are seeing this post, this bird is still available for adoption. But please know that we may be working on multiple applications already, and any one of them could be approved at any time. Please READ THIS ENTIRE DESCRIPTION and complete an adoption application if you are interested in any of our animals. The application can be found at www.greendogsunleashed.org. If you send an inquiry to ask if the bird is still available, or just tell us you are interested, your inquiry will not be answered. FILL OUT AN APPLICATION. We can do NOTHING without that. We cannot tell you if he would be a match for your family without seeing an application, but if/when your application is approved, we can set up a meet and greet with the foster in person or over video or phone so that you can both determine if it is a good match for both Jagger and your family. Our goal is not to quickly adopt out animals but rather to find the perfect placement for every animal in our care.

*/*/* PLEASE NOTE: If we need additional information to process your application, we will send an email to request the information. Please check your inbox AND spam folders for this email. We will not begin processing an application without the information requested in that email. */*/*

We are happy to consider applicants from out of state on most animals. Please read the description to see if this bird is an exception. If the applicant is approved to adopt, they MUST be willing to come to our location in Troy, VA, for a meet and greet. If all parties agree that the bird and family are a good fit, they would take the bird home at that time.

For more information about our mission and for an APPLICATION for adoption, please go to www.greendogsunleashed.org. The minimum donation fee for this bird is $400. This does not even come close to covering all expenses created by animals while in rescue. We are funded solely by the angels and volunteers willing to donate time and finances.
