My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

ABOUT KITSY
Despite her grumpy face, our 2 year old girl Kitsy is very sweet and loving. Kitsy came to HAP when her owners were unable to care for her. From the moment Kitsy arrived, she was in clear distress and began mutilating her own body within a matter of hours. She caused the most significant damage to her tail, chewing entirely through it. After thorough examination, the best option for Kitsy was to amputate the portion of her tail she was mutilating. We quickly placed her in a temporary foster home to recover and decompress, where she thrived.

When Kitsy returned to the shelter, she began self-mutilating again, this time chewing nearly her entire tail off. She required an additional procedure to fully amputate her tail. Now that her tail is gone, she is still severely stressed in the shelter and has no way to eliviate her nerves. The best possible solution for her is to return to a home environment. Kitsy was in foster previously and did very well. Here's what her foster had to say:

"She adapted well to a schedule & the routine of the house. No litter box issues. I didn't feel like I constantly had to be "on guard for her injuring herself again/further - she was comfortable & pretty relaxed in the space once she got used to it. Underneath her sometimes scowling face is a real sweetheart (really, she's not mad, she just looks like it!). She had two main requests - a cat tree and a view to the outside, extra bonus points for birds. By nature, she did not seem to be a lap cat or a snuggler but that made the occasions when she did those things extra special. Did not seem to be a big 'play with toys' kind of cat, but she enjoys observing things. She is very content to sleep, lay in the cat tree, and just watch the world go by. She wasn't constantly on the hunt for attention but happy to accept some scritches if you happened to be sitting on the floor."

If you are interested in adopting this cat, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific cat but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! We may require all household members, including children, to come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, and a small bag of food to get you started.
