My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, my name is Fletch and I was found roaming on a rainy, stormy, thundery night.  My foster says I'm not a total couch potato, but I'm not a high energy dog either.  I'm living in a home with lots of other dogs, getting along with everyone, and I'm really enjoying playing with my new foster sister.  I had a few accidents in the house when I first arrived, but now I've learned the potty schedule my foster says I'm doing great. You may notice a slight discoloration in one of my eyes but don't worry, my vision isn't impaired.  I was diagnosed with heartworms, and I'm undergoing treatment so I should be good as new once that is complete.  I'm a Beagle, with the beautiful beagle bay instead of a bark, and I'll follow my nose out of my yard if I didn't have a secure back yard for me to run in.  I'm eating my dinner in a crate, and I sometimes go into the crate to hang out, but I've got free roam in the house most of the time. I'm pretty good on a leash and love going on walks.  I like sitting on laps and being in the bed with you, but I'm so excited I get really wiggly!  I'm looking for a moderately active family and would prefer having playmates (kids, other dogs, adults that take me on evening strolls).  I'm just a sweet loverboy looking to be part of your family.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Potential adopters must complete an application and SCP volunteers can help adopters identify cats and dogs that will fit best in their homes. SCP adoption counselors review the applications, conduct in-person interviews and discuss pet care responsibilities with potential adopters. SCP checks applicants' vet references and may conduct a home visit at its discretion. So that the best interests of the pet are served, SCP reserves the right to refuse an adoption to anyone. The adoption fee starts at $110 for cats ($175 for two cats), $190 for dogs and $245 for puppies.

SCP tries to ensure that all pets are healthy at the time of adoption. All are examined by veterinarians when they enter the program. All are vaccinated, spayed/neutered, de-wormed, tested/treated for parasites and disease (such as heartworms, fleas, feline leukemia and FIV) as needed. Cats are vaccinated for FVRCP and FeLV. Dogs are vaccinated for DHLPP and Corona virus. Animals are kept in foster homes to minimize exposure to disease and to help them be well-adjusted. It is the policy of SCP that no cat or dog may be sent to a permanent home before it is fully vetted, including spay or neuter. All of our rescued animals are microchipped.

Go meet their pets

SCP does not have a shelter or an office location. The rescued pets, volunteers, fosters, and adopters who comprise SCP come from all over the Galveston Bay area (mainly north Galveston and south Harris counties). Our adoptable animals are fostered and loved in volunteer homes until a permanent home is found.

SCP has cats and dogs available for adoption every Saturday (cats 10:30-2:30 and dogs 11:00-2:00) at the Petco store in Clear Lake (2410 Bay Area Boulevard, Houston, TX 77058 - corner of Bay Area and Space Center). A few cats may also be seen during the week in the condos at this Petco location.

More about this rescue

Second Chance Pets (SCP) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) animal welfare organization dedicated to providing unwanted pets a second chance through foster care and pet adoption programs, educating the public about proper care for their own animals and about animal welfare issues, and working with the public, other rescue groups, and public officials to help resolve the problem of animal overpopulation.
