My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You know how they say "no one is perfect." Well…….this little girl comes pretty dang close! Just wait until you learn about this precious soul.

Harlei came to us very recently through no fault of her own. Unfortunately, her family had to make a decision that did not include Harlei, and DREAM is glad to be here to help in cases like this. At first, Harlei did not understand why her world was turned upside down. Changes can make anyone nervous, right? Harlei did endure a handful of days where she did not want to eat – she was confused & scared. But with the help of her very supportive foster family who understood this type of behavior, Harlei quickly regained her spirit. A few days of patience & lots of TLC (along with the help of some yummy chicken), she was back to her happy, sweet, tail-waggin’ self.

Harlei has been the perfect house guest in her foster home & gets along very well with her new doxie friends. She loves to snuggle and burrow under the covers. She sleeps quietly in her crate at night, and hallelujah (do you hear the angels singing?!?)....she is HOUSETRAINED! On visits to the park, she walks well on a leash, and is well mannered.

The previous owners reported to us that later in the grassy-season of warm weather, she MAY exhibit some skin allergies. She has some anti-itch medication that she will need, if the allergies flare up, but currently her coat is soft and lush. We will send her home with some of this medication to get her started, if it's needed.

Harlei will be a wonderful companion to a family or an individual who can give her lots of love and attention.

If you are interested in adopting Harlei, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Harlei's adoption fee is $450.

All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. Harlei will go to her new home microchipped, spayed, heartworm tested, up to date on vaccinations, and with all other medical needs addressed.

Almost every dog's veterinary expenses exceed our adoption fees; we are a non-profit.

DREAM is an all-volunteer rescue group. We focus on the metro Atlanta area and can assist throughout the state of Georgia.

Since our rescue is entirely run and staffed by volunteers, our ability to travel long distances for adoptions is somewhat limited. We focus on Georgia, but if you are in a neighboring state, we might be able to work something out - we'll expect you to do your part.

DREAM does not recommend purebred dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a doxie's back.
