Their adoption process

We screen applicants to adopt a pet with an application form, interview, and veterinarian reference. We want all of our pets to be adopted into homes where they are with the family inside at night and during family time. Our adoption fee is $145 for dogs and $65 for cats. All animals offered for adoption have been spayed or neutered, and are up to date on vaccinations and parasite preventives. Cats have been tested for FIV, feline leukemia and heartworms. Dogs been tested for heartworms and treated if positive. All animals have had a microchip implanted. Adopters are required to sign an adoption agreement which includes a commitment to return the animal to the Hart County Humane Society at any time in the life of the animal if the adopter is unable or unwilling to keep and care for the animal, and not to give or sell the animal to anyone else.

More about this rescue

Hart County Humane Society, Inc. is a Georgia registered non-profit organization with tax-exempt status under IRS section 501(c)(3). We have an animal shelter license with the Georgia Department of Agriculture. We rescue homeless dogs and cats, shelter them in the homes of members of our organization, and at the J Robert Mauldin Sanctuary at 1364 Reed Creek Hwy in Hartwell GA. Our organization is a PetSmart adoption partner, and we participate in adoption events at the PetSmart stores in Anderson, SC (near Hartwell, GA) and other PetSmart stores nearby, and at local community events in Hartwell, GA. Pets can also be adopted at the Sanctuary. We promote spaying and neutering of pets through a Low-Cost or Low-Income Spay/Neuter certificate program by agreement with local veterinarians to do the surgery at a reduced rate for qualified applicants for a small fee.
