My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello there, I'm Twitch, a one-year-old boxer mix and I am a very happy pup. I have a beautiful faint brindle coat that makes me stand out from the crowd and weigh a cuddly 45 pounds. Something else you might notice about me is that I tend to twitch my head. This is how I got my name, Twitch. The vet didn’t find anything that stood out that might require medication or seeing a neurologist at this time. He says I am healthy with a great coat, teeth, eyes and pass the general exam with flying colors. I will always just be special in my own sweet ways.

I am a vocal dog and will hold full conversations with you in the language of my people…Chewbacca. Oh yes. Get ready for some guttural sass to let you know precisely what is on my mind. I settle down well and will curl up beside you when it is time to relax. I also sleep to the fullest, upside down with my mouth open to the stars like a drunken undergrad at the end of a frat house party. But wait…there’s more!

I am a very curious and adventurous boy. I love to explore and pick up anything I can find to take outside. I will need your careful supervision and attention to make sure I don’t get into things I’m not supposed to.

I'm good with other dogs, but I don't know when to stop playing, so I might annoy them sometimes. If you already have an energetic playful dog, we may be great together to keep each other busy. I do my best if I am let out to potty by myself. Otherwise, I will get distracted by the other dogs and won’t go potty until I am back in my crate and remember that I have to go. I’m just a little bit all over the place.

I also don't have any fear or sense of danger. For example, there are aggressive dogs in my foster home, but I don’t sense it at all. I will approach their crates wanting to be friends and play no matter what! Even when they bark and growl at me, I will still try to approach and play with them. I have a superbly innocent “puppy mind” and likely always will.

I haven't been tested with cats or kids, but we think I would do well with older children who can handle my energy and excitability. I can also be cat-tested if you would like. I'm neutered, vaccinated, and heartworm negative, but I'm still working on my house, crate, and leash training. Please remember that I am still a young puppy who is learning new things now that I recently been placed in a stable environment.

I'm looking for a forever home that can give me the love, care, and patience I require. My family will be committed to investing the time needed to work with me. I am located in Statesville, NC but can be transported to other locations for the right family. If you think you're the one for me, please fill out an application today! *Must be 21 or older to apply.

Our adoptable dogs are all in various foster homes and can be met by contacting rescue. Rescue will then provide foster home's contact information. More about this rescue

Our Mission

Operation Save A Shelter Dog is a foster based, IRS-recognized 501c(3) rescue whose mission is to work with shelters on the East Coast by saving dogs at high risk of euthanasia or that have little hope of adoption in their current condition. Not only is it our goal to find furever homes for our dogs, but also to educate the public on the importance of spaying, neutering, vaccinating and providing preventative care for their pets.
