My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hey! Iggy Pup here. I have a "Lust for Life" and would love to share my story with you.....My owner went to the county shelter and tried to surrender me and my five buddies. They turned her away but provided rehoming resources. Well, she was not interested in that so she took off and left us abandoned in her apartment. Animal Control was called out and we were impounded. SCARY! The shelter sent out a plea for help and we were all thankfully rescued. My buddy Eggbert and I were taken into SCP. I am about 8-10 years old and I have slight cataracts and arthritis. Don't worry, this doesn't keep me down! I love going for short walks and sitting with my humans on a recliner:) I am great with other dogs and even cats! I am a couch potato at heart with bouts of energy. Hopefully I have many, many more years in me- my bloodwork was great and I will be getting a dental very soon! I have medium length fur that needs a good brushing every now and again but doesn't have to be professionally trimmed. I am looking for my forever home and hoping to find this through SCP. I will sleep with you and I am potty trained - I can even be crated- I am very quiet! I am a friendly guy and love all of my peeps..... especially anyone is has food, I'm a total piggy!.

If you are interested in me, please send an email to us! Applications can be found on our website at secondchancepets.org under the "Forms" tab. Please complete and return to us for review! All dogs typically show on Saturdays at the Petco in Clear Lake as well. 2410 Bay Area Blvd near Space Center.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Potential adopters must complete an application and SCP volunteers can help adopters identify cats and dogs that will fit best in their homes. SCP adoption counselors review the applications, conduct in-person interviews and discuss pet care responsibilities with potential adopters. SCP checks applicants' vet references and may conduct a home visit at its discretion. So that the best interests of the pet are served, SCP reserves the right to refuse an adoption to anyone. The adoption fee starts at $110 for cats ($175 for two cats), $190 for dogs and $245 for puppies.

SCP tries to ensure that all pets are healthy at the time of adoption. All are examined by veterinarians when they enter the program. All are vaccinated, spayed/neutered, de-wormed, tested/treated for parasites and disease (such as heartworms, fleas, feline leukemia and FIV) as needed. Cats are vaccinated for FVRCP and FeLV. Dogs are vaccinated for DHLPP and Corona virus. Animals are kept in foster homes to minimize exposure to disease and to help them be well-adjusted. It is the policy of SCP that no cat or dog may be sent to a permanent home before it is fully vetted, including spay or neuter. All of our rescued animals are microchipped.

Go meet their pets

SCP does not have a shelter or an office location. The rescued pets, volunteers, fosters, and adopters who comprise SCP come from all over the Galveston Bay area (mainly north Galveston and south Harris counties). Our adoptable animals are fostered and loved in volunteer homes until a permanent home is found.

SCP has cats and dogs available for adoption every Saturday (cats 10:30-2:30 and dogs 11:00-2:00) at the Petco store in Clear Lake (2410 Bay Area Boulevard, Houston, TX 77058 - corner of Bay Area and Space Center). A few cats may also be seen during the week in the condos at this Petco location.

More about this rescue

Second Chance Pets (SCP) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) animal welfare organization dedicated to providing unwanted pets a second chance through foster care and pet adoption programs, educating the public about proper care for their own animals and about animal welfare issues, and working with the public, other rescue groups, and public officials to help resolve the problem of animal overpopulation.
