Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Kiki Yes, yes, it`s nice to meet you and all that stuff. Let`s cut to the chase. I am an 11-year-old female, with a tortoiseshell-colored coat. My owner found me as a stray kitten, and I lived with her ever since. However, she cannot afford to keep me, so I`ve been at the HSHC since January 2024. I am kind of a one-person cat. Naturally somewhat suspicious of strangers, I can get riled up when new people come at me. And I have a history of ear infections, so vet visits have been traumatizing. You never know what is going to happen to at the vet! Anyway, living at the shelter has been agonizing because I do NOT like cats. I recently went home with a foster mom who understands cats very well. She took her time with me and didn`t force herself on me when I was clearly not in the mood. She knew being around her other cats was a big turn-off for me. (That is why I have a big private suite here at the HSHC.) She recognized that if you quietly sit with me, I will seek affection and rub up on you for pets. I crave having my head and neck scratched. I might even sit in your lap! I love the laser pointer toy and the battery-operated chaser thingy. If you pay attention to my body language, you will know when I want to be left alone! Therefore, I need everyone in my new home to be 18 or older. I`d prefer that I be the only 4-legged family member. I DO have a sweet, gentle side if you give me plenty of time to get accustomed to you AND you are fluent in “Cat-Speak” 2-17-25

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.
This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
