My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mickey is a 4 year old pure bred Havanese. He needs a patient, gentle home with dog savvy people. He thrives with other dogs and a fenced yard. He hasn't been tested with cats. Mickey is house trained and crate trained for sleeping at night. He's a good watch dog and barks at passersby. He loves meeting strangers. He is a sweet affectionate little guy most of the time; however he doesn't like to have his leash removed after a walk. In his foster home a slip leash is used for walks and has to be removed carefully or he will growl and bite. This behavior seems to be improving, but is still a problem. He will need professional training for this issue, and a home without children is recommended. 98% of the time Mickey is a wonderful pet.

He enjoys being near his people and other dogs. Loves playing with toys and going for walks and rides and running around a fenced yard.

Havanese have a coat that needs regular brushing and grooming.

If you are interested in giving Mickey the kind of home he needs, please fill out an application, so a meeting can be arranged.

Dogs are not placed on a first-come, first-served basis. We strive to find the perfect home for each animal. Applications may take up to 48 hours to process. ALL CAWS animals are fixed, microchipped, and vaccinated. His adoption fee is $200. If you are interested in adopting Mickey, please fill out an online application at https://caws.org/adoption-application. Additional adoption info

Since we make a lifetime commitment to any animal that comes into our program, we only adopt out animals to people in our area..

If you are interested in adopting a CAWS cat or dog, please fill out the online application at http://www.caws.org/application/, email adopt@caws.org or call 328-4731. For the most timely response applying online is recommended.

We respond as quickly as possible but as we are a volunteer based organization and do not have full time staff, we respond as quickly as possible.

Go meet their pets

CAWS does not have a conventional shelter facility - all CAWS animals waiting for adoption are in foster homes. The number of animals we can help find new homes for is closely linked to how many CAWS foster homes are available. For additional information regarding how you, too, can become a foster, please see our fostering page located on our web site!

CAWS volunteers bring cats and dogs to the PetSmart near 2100 South and 300 West in South Salt Lake on the third and fourth weekends of each month

We are also at the Sugarhouse PETCO (1165 Wilmington Ave) the first Saturday of each month.
