My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Delilah is around 3-4 months old.  She weighs 15 lbs and might be around 45-50 lbs when fully grown. She is a cute little fur ball who looks to be a shepherd mix.

She has been in a foster home with her siblings and loves to play. She loves our dog Issac and would really enjoy the company of another submissive dog but would do fine as an only dog with humans who would play with her and exercise her.  She loves all people and dogs and is great meeting dogs in our neighborhood. Her previous foster home had a cat, and she did well with it.  She absolutely adores my 5-year-old grandson and plays with him without all the puppy biting.  She is a very outgoing friendly puppy who is looking for her forever home.

Delilah would prefer a fenced in yard. She is outside a lot. She LOVES to be outside with a lot of play time. She is definitely afraid of loud noises. Especially motorcycles, loud trucks and fireworks. When she’s outside in the yard and hears a loud noise, she comes running inside.

Delilah is working on housetraining and doing very well, she is smart and catches on very quicky. She goes to the door when she has to go out. She hasn’t had any accidents recently. But we still take her out every hour until she is fully housebroken. She sleeps all night in her crate with no accidents. She is very food motivated so training her is not hard.

Delilah is still a puppy so she needs to be watched constantly.  Since she is puppy, she should not be crated for 8+ hours a day while her family works away from home.  Once she’s fully trained and can be trusted, then that would be ok as long as owner gives her a potty break during the day, if they work full time.

Delilah is very smart, mostly quiet dog. She catches on very quickly to commands. She is very loving. She is a delight to have around our family. She is sassy in a good way with so much personality. She is crate trained and is great in the crate.  Please consider giving this sweet girl a wonderful home filled with love.  She will give that love right back to you!

If you are looking for a new puppy to brighten your day?   Delilah might be just the girl for you. Please submit a Best Friend Pet Adoption application at this link.      https://toolkit.rescuegroups.org/of/f?c=WHMSYCNC .

Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed.

Applicants must live no further than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized  after they are altered at 5-6 months old.    Adopters must be willing to bring the puppy to the Raleigh area for all medical care needed.  F oster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions.  We therefore require applicants to live within an hours drive of Cary NC.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

All of our adoptions require submission of an application which is processed and and must be approved by our adoption coordinator. Potential adopters then take the animal on a trial (minimum of 2 weeks) before the adoption is finalized. This helps to ensure a good fit between the adopting family and the animal. All animals must be up to date on all vaccinations, spayed/neutered, and microchipped before the adoption can be finalized. Adoption fee is $225 for dogs, $115 for cats.

More about this rescue

Best Friend Pet Adoption (BFPA) is a no-kill animal rescue organization based in central North Carolina. BFPA has no building, office, or shelter. We are an all-foster network committed to helping dogs and cats in need of homes. Individual donations are our most important source of income as we receive no public funding.

Our purpose is to provide medical assistance, foster homes, and adoption services to previously lost, abandoned, abused, or neglected animals in Wake County, NC and the surrounding counties. Our mission is to educate this disposable society in which we live that every life should be valued and cherished and is directly linked to human responsibility and commitment.

Almost all the animals we rescue require immediate medical attention. BFPA never turns away or euthanizes an animal because of the expense involved in returning them to good health. All our rescued animals are evaluated for temperament, examined by a veterinarian, vaccinated, microchipped (if possible) and sterilized, if age appropriate. Cats and dogs receive monthly flea/tick preventative and dogs also receive monthly heartworm preventative.

The most important ingredients we provide to these animals are loving care and a safe haven -- something most of them have never experienced. These cats and dogs live in volunteer foster homes until we find them a loving permanent home, however long it takes. We match these precious beings to a single, couple or family who understand cats and dogs should be full participating members of the family. Our hope is that these animals never have to experience being unloved again.

Since our beginning, BFPA has rescued and placed thousands of cats and dogs into their forever homes.

BFPA was created in 1998 by two Raleigh-area women who had volunteered with other established rescues in the Triangle. Their dedication to help homeless dogs and cats has led to an organization that has grown to over 225 volunteers strong.

BFPA received 501(c)(3) status in 1999.
