My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We all know how we get that awww feeling when we see an adorable puppy. Winnie is the kind of pup that snuggles in, loves you up and then puts her head on your shoulder breathing her warm baby breath. She's so sweet and loving with every possibility open to her. That's the case unless a puppy like Winnie is in a high-kill shelter that quickly runs out of space. We're so grateful for the efforts of our great rescuers and fosters for saving Winnie from almost certain euthanasia through no fault of her own.

It got scarily close to Winnie's euthanasia date in a dismal Texas shelter as it's all a matter of space. She came in at a very crowded time (but then again, all times are crowded) and was therefore given a short window in which to be rescued. After a scramble by our compassionate rescuer (she has a soft spot for a really cute fuzzy pup with a great temperament!), Winnie was pulled out of the shelter at the last second possible. Her rescuer, shelter workers and foster haven't stopped raving about this adorable and engaging puppy ever since.

Winnie, at just about 4 months old old and 12 lbs (anticipated to be approximately 25 lbs when full-grown) is the perfect size to take along just about anywhere a sweet dog with a great temperament is welcome. Winnie is such a perfect candidate to find her forever home in Colorado - she's a natural-born hiker with the energy and enthusiasm to accompany her favorite person on any trail and absolutely love the experience!

We envision Winnie with dog-crazy retirees who have the passion and time for a silly, fun-loving and irresistible little pup. Winnie would also do well with a younger family that works from a home-based office. She's too sensitive a puppy to be left alone for the long hours of full-time work outside of the home. We feel Winnie will do well with very gentle older kids as tail pulling or awkward handling by a very young child would be too scary for a puppy who is learning about the world.

Winnie will be a very family-oriented dog if given the chance...adventures, dog-friendly vacations or just hanging out at home would speak to the nature of this very engaging and loving family puppy. A fun time for Winnie would be exploring dog-friendly locations or time spent socializing with gentle canines and their dog-loving families. At the end of the day however...there would be nothing better for Winnie than to snuggle close to her family of humans and canines for cuddling and lots of love and belly rubs.

Winnie can be counted on to be a positive addition to any home. Once she is over the initial stress of her transport and rehoming, she will be overjoyed at being part of a committed family! After passing her temperament testing and vetting with flying colors, Winnie is with a wonderful foster in Texas getting loved up. Her foster mom has described Winnie as a super-smart, very sweet puppy with a strong desire to please.

Farfel's Rescue feels strongly that every dog deserves the opportunity for formal, positive reinforcement / force-free training classes that are virtual or in-person. We therefore aren't willing to adopt Winnie out to a home that doesn't choose to offer her this training opportunity. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved positive reinforcement/force-free virtual and in-person trainers in your area.

Winnie is in need of a sudsy bath and coat care. With this care, she'll emerge with a cottony-soft, shining and very healthy coat that will highlight her gorgeous coloring and speak of her breed mix. Winnie will require a lifelong commitment to periodic baths/brushing and great nutrition (5 star kibble and a salmon oil supplement are always excellent choices for longevity and hair care) to keep her lovely coat very healthy, super-soft and shining.

Winnie, at just 4 months old, is too young to be spayed at this time. Current research is clear that puppies are best fixed at approximately one year old after they've had the benefit of hormones to strengthen their skeleton for their later lives. Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for Winnie's spay and microchip once she reaches an appropriate age and if one of our local rescue vets is used.

Winnie will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Wednesday 2/28/2024. Applications are currently being accepted for this very sweet, loving and loyal best friend and can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit.

**PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Winnie please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in most cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
