My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ursuline was rescued from a hoarding situation in the French Quarter. She was living on the streets with 30 other cats and was very sick. We scooped her up and took her to the vet where she spent 2 weeks getting better. She is now in a foster home and is showing us how amazing of a cat she is!

Ursuline is tall and lanky, and she has the longest legs and tail ever! Her back feet also turn out a little bit, giving her a waddling appearance when she runs. It’s the cutest thing! She is super friendly, and wants to follow you around like a puppy. She loves to talk, and demands attention at all times!

Ursuline gets along well with other cats, but we do not know if she has ever been around dogs or kids. Given her good temperament and friendly disposition, she should do well with them given the proper introductions.

Ursuline is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and treated for fleas. She is Feline Leukemia negative and Heartworm negative. She is FIV positive.

FIV stands for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, and all it means is that she is immune compromised, so if she gets sick or injured, she would need to go to the vet more quickly than other cats, because she may take longer to recover. She should also be indoors only. FIV cats can and do live long, healthy lifespans similar to other cats as long as they are well cared for.

FIV cannot be spread to people or dogs. It can be spread to other cats, although it does not spread easily. FIV is not spread through casual contact, through eating together, grooming each other, or sharing litterboxes. It is only spread through deep bites. So Ursuline can live with other cats as long as they are friendly and there is no fighting. Ursuline can also be adopted as an only cat- she would love to be the center of attention!

Although it may sound scary and has a stigma attached to it, it really doesn’t require any medication or special care. And cats with FIV can and do live normal lifespans. But it scares people away, before they even meet her they say no. Not to mention she is a black cat, and an adult. It’s like she has three strikes against her already. We hope you are willing to give this deserving girl a chance!

Go meet their pets

Our adoptable kittens and cats are in individual foster homes so they can learn to live and thrive in a household with people and other pets. Meet and greets are scheduled with the potential adopter after the adoption application is approved. Meeting the kitten or cat in their foster home gives the adopter a chance to see how they interact in familiar territory without being stressed.

More about this rescue

Trap Dat Cat is an all volunteer group that works together to help the community cats of New Orleans, Louisiana. While we have all worked as volunteers in different aspects of rescue and with different organizations for many years, we founded Trap Dat Cat, Inc. in April of 2020, when Covid-19 severely limited resources for community cats. As a group, we were able to streamline fundraising and partner with local shelters and veterinarians to provide low cost spay and neuter services and to secure medical care for cats in need. To limit overhead costs, we have no paid employees, no offices, work out of our homes, and all donate our time, money, and resources to continue the work we love. Through fundraising and the generosity of donors, we have been able to help numerous cats, trapping an average of about 50 cats a week.

Kittens and friendly cats we find in the field during TNR that are unable to be returned are placed into foster homes until they are socialized, vetted, and placed for adoption. We subscribe to the #FullCircleTNR method of kitten rescue, assuring our team locates and sterilizes the mother cat and the colony where kittens are found. This ends the cycle of reproduction that leads to more kittens being born on the streets, creating a more lasting impact and long term solution than simply rescuing kitten after kitten.

We are are a 501c3 nonprofit organization.
