DOG TEST: (Good with Dogs) Zuko has made a few friends here at the shelter. He enjoys chasing and playing with the other dogs.

CAT TEST: (Needs Testing) Zuko has never been around cats.

KID TEST: (Good with Kids) Zuko would do great with kids of all ages.
HOUSE BROKEN: (Housebroken) Zuko tends to keep a clean kennel.
ENERGY LEVEL: (Medium-High) Zuko is a very goofy boy that loves to spend his time playing outside. He loves to run around with other dogs and play with all the toys he can find. Zuko will go into his kennel willingly after a long day of playing and take naps on his bed. He is very well mannered when it comes to dinner time and will sit for his food.

LEASH WALKING: (Good) Zuko does fairly well walking on a leash. He will occasionally jump, but mostly does well.

Our shelter is open 7 days a week. (Excluding holidays).

Monday- Friday 8am-5pm
Saturday- Sunday 10am-2pm

We ask that you come visit any time between open and no later than 30 minutes prior to closing. This ensures that staff will have enough time to assist you in meeting one of our great furry friends!

More about this shelter

We are a Municipal Animal Shelter for the City of Lee's Summit. We house animals brought in by Lee's Summit Animal Control Officers and Blue Springs Animal Control Officers.

Animals are also brought to us by owners that can no longer keep the animal or by strays that were impounded for running loose.

When an animal comes in as a stray, it is held for 5 days to give the owner a chance to claim it. If the owner does not claim it, on the 6th day it is put up for adoption or foster. During this 5 day holding period, if a potential adopter would like to adopt the animal, they are welcome to sign up on the adoption list. The names on the adoption list are contacted on the 6th day if no owner has made claim.
If there are no names on the adoption list, then the animal will become first come, first served when available for adoption.
