My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Barnabas is a very friendly cat that loves to headbutt, weave between your legs, and follow you along from room to room.

He’s a big fan of looking out the window and brings a calm presence to any room. He is comfortable being held and you can find him lounging around different couches and pillows throughout the day.

He is fairly indifferent to toys and can’t be bothered to run for any thrown toys, yet he will smell anything in front of him.

His favorite snack is Churo tuna, and he is very food motivated! He loves a good head rub and tends to like anyone who can offer a good scratch, however, there are times where he decides he’s had enough and can gently bite without marks as a warning. You can learn to expect this if he isn’t leaning into the scratch as you pet him.

Otherwise, he rarely meows and never scratches, making him the perfect companion for a quiet evening at home. He is also strangely great with watching tv side by side with us. He would be a great fit for a down to earth owner ready to give lots of pets and food!

Barnabas has been diagnosed with a heart murmur and would benefit from an echocardiogram -- we would appreciate it if their potential adopter could help us cover this cost in lieu of an adoption donation

This cat would prefer to be adopted alone and be the only cat in the home.

More about this rescue

Our rescue group was formed in December 2007, but all our Board Members have had extensive experience rescuing and working with abandoned animals. We often work with other rescue organizations to find appropriate and safe foster and adoptive homes for our pet clients. We regularly go to areas with abandoned animals and collect them. The animals are taken to a licensed veterinarian examined, treated and spayed or neutered. Every effort is made to work with the animal and our foster and adoptive families to find a suitable forever home.

For those animals who are truly wild and feral, we release the animal in a safe and secure location after it has recovered from its medical treatment. We also work with certified wildlife rehabilitators to rescue injured and orphaned wildlife. Our organization is focused on improving the welfare of the abandoned animals in need of help in Brooklyn. In furthering that goal, our resources are focused on the animals.

Aside from a few minimal overhead costs such as our website and phone services, our entire budget is spent on animal care such as medical and food costs.
