My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If you're searching for the most devoted and loving best friend ever....Joey is the pup you want to have around! Joey, at 10 months old and 24 lbs is just naturally a lover, and when he looks at you with those dark, expressive eyes and sweet smile, your heart just has to melt.

Joey is a beautiful and sweet as can be Beagle / Dachshund mix with all the traits that make these super- smart and personality-plus dogs very popular and beloved breed mixes.

Farfel's received a plea from Rescued Pets Movement in Houston to save the life of Joey who was scheduled for euthanasia due to a lack of space. They described this Beagle / Doxy mix as wonderful, sweet and just about perfect in his temperament and general demeanor.

Joey is a cuddler and snuggler all the way! He loves to to cuddle close on the couch for TV watching or just hanging out with his favorite people is just about perfect for this sweet best friend. An occasional kiss from Joey, once comfortable in his new home, is inevitable. He's a sensitive and very kind dog who derives so much joy from his time spent with his favorite people and his doggy friends.

Joey is a young, playful and silly pup who will love his family with all his heart. He would enjoy another gentle dog to play with, although it's not necessary if his family is involved and present.

Joey will have so much fun exploring, and taking long walks and hikes along Colorado's gorgeous paths and trails. Hiking and socializing with other hikers is right down this friendly and active guy's alley. He is always open to new activities with a never-ending positive attitude...just say the word and up Joey jumps for a car ride, a fun backyard game or just a sociable walk around the neighborhood.

Joey's rescuer had the following to brag about this sweet guy: Joey is an extremely affectionate and loving dog! We would love to see him in a home with a family (older kids preferred so there's no tail-pulling or awkward handling) or active retirees who have the time and love for a very loyal and sweet pup. We'd hate to see Joey left alone all day while his family works full-time outside of the home. He seems too sensitive for that type of arrangement. Joey will thrive on spending the days near his people...getting loved up, periodically throughout the day is a dream come true for our sweet Joey.

Joey's Texas foster mom share the following with us: There's lots of tail wagging when Joey is around, but this little guy is still a bit shy when people approach him. He walks well on a leash and likes to be at your side or behind. He does gets a bit startled when people suddenly appear from behind him. He'll get over this as he becomes more confident and bonded with a family.

So far Joey has been 100% house broken with no accidents. He enjoys going on walks with my dogs and loves to be in the backyard exploring. This wonderful pup is very well-behaved for a young guy and sleeps through the night on a dog bed next to my bed. I work part-time and Joey has the run of the house while I'm gone and has been perfect! He takes treats well, has no food guarding challenges and absolutely loves to play with my dogs. I can say without reservation that Joey will be an excellent companion for a dog-loving family.

Farfel's would like to see Joey in a home where he'll get consistent stimulation, exercise and tons of loving hugs. A virtual or in-person positive reinforcement training class promotes great behavior, bonding and confidence for a young guy whose self-esteem will fly high while he masters his skills. Training is so important to the future behaviors of every dog that we're unwilling to adopt Joey out to a family that doesn't make this loving choice. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of both in-person and virtual positive reinforcement / force- free trainers in your area.

Joey will require a lifelong commitment to periodic baths/brushing and excellent nutrition (5 star food and a daily salmon oil supplement are great lifelong protocols for coat care and general health) to keep his coat cottony-soft and very healthy.

We've requested that Joey be neutered prior to his transport to Denver. We're not optimistic that this will occur due to far too many rescue dogs and not enough vets to care for them in this area of Texas. If it doesn't, Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for Joey's neuter and microchip following his transport to Boulder if one of our rescue vets is used.

Joey will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Wednesday 3/6/2024. Applications are currently being accepted for this very sweet, loving and loyal best friend. An application can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit.

**PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Joey please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in most cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
