My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Some of you will remember Trooper. He has a very sad story. Both of his owners died, but no one knew he was in the house so it was three weeks before he was rescued. Even though 28 horses on the property were found dead, Trooper had survived.

When we picked him up from the shelter, we could see he was having a hard time walking. But even though he was probably in pain, he never stopped wagging his tail. Trooper is a very sweet little boy.

We did bring him in to our vet for testing and he does have arthritis in both knees and spondylosis in his back. We have him on Gabapentin and Glucosamine. He also received an injection for the arthritis. He is getting around a little bit better now that he is on medication, and even tries to run a little (especially when he hears his dog bowl being filled). He is 8-9 years old and will require the medication for his arthritis for the rest of his life.

Trooper will go out and sniff around in the yard, picking up scents of little critters just like most beagles, but he doesn't really need leash walks. He can walk short distances at a very slow pace, but will not require and long walks. He mostly likes to hang out on his dog bed next to his person. He will follow his foster parents around the house and then just get comfortable in whatever room they are in.

We would love Trooper to find his forever home. After what he has been through, he needs a house where someone is home a lot. He does OK in the house alone and does not have anxiety, but since he loves to have people around, it seems only fair that he go to a home where he won't be alone a lot. He gets along fine with the other dogs in his foster home.

If you think you could make a great home for this sweet boy, our application can be found at www.homesfurhounds.org.

Additional adoption info

We require an application. Once the application is received we check personal and vet references and if renting, we verify with leasing company that pets are allowed. If that is approved, we set up a meeting with the pet. We then perform a home check. If the person wants to adopt, we require a contract and our adoption fee is $300.00. Our dogs are all spayed/neutered, HW tested, up to date on shots and micro-chipped.

Go meet their pets

Our dogs are all kept in foster homes. Once an applicant is approved we set up a place for them to meet the pet.

More about this rescue

Homes Fur Hounds Inc. was formed to help the overwhelming number of animals that are abandoned, surrendered to county agencies and simply unwanted. These animals are facing death due to no fault of their own other than not being convenient. Our mission is to help stop the unnecessary killing of animals. Thousands of animals are put to sleep (some more humanely than others) every day. We strive to educate the public on the importance of spaying, neutering, heartworm preventive and general health care. We also strive to help owners who are experiencing difficulties with their pet find solutions to their problems. By helping them find solutions we keep the animals out of the county pounds and from being abandoned. It is our policy to adopt out only healthy dogs and to do our best to know and understand what type of home the dog needs. We are always striving to find that “forever home” for the animals.
