Introducing MIKE, a 3-year-old labrador retriever who weighs a sturdy 60 lbs. MIKE may come across timid at first glance, but deep down he's a big softie with a heart of gold. Despite his size, MIKE is feeling a bit scared and uncertain in the shelter environment, but don't let that fool you- he's just waiting for the right person to come along and show him the love and reassurance he needs. With his soulful eyes and wagging tail, MIKE longs for nothing more than a loving home where he can feel safe and secure.
Given time and patience, this loyal companion is sure to blossom into the devoted family member you've been searching for. If you're ready to open your heart and home to a sweet and gentle soul, come meet MIKE today and watch as he transforms from a timid shelter pup to beloved best friend.
MIKE is neutered, up to date on all core vaccinations and preventions. If interested, please come into the shelter or feel free to give us a call if you have any questions at 740-314-5583. Give us a call at (740) 314-5583 for more information!

More about this shelter
We are the Jefferson County Humane Society and , except for our humane officers (who are paid very nominally), we are all volunteers! Our members were instrumental in getting a local levy passed to build a new and larger shelter and the doors opened in 2011. We are currently participating in Iams Home for the Holidays Program and the Purina Pets for People grant program. We are actively pursuing other grants and recently have been asked by the county to partner with them in the operation of the new shelter. Since we are a humane society, our main focus is on getting animals spayed and neutered so there are no more homeless pets. To that end, we bring in a mobile animal surgical clinic who performs spays and neuters at a reduced rate. We are always looking for volunteers to help us in our efforts and, of course, for financial contributions (we are a non-profit, 501 (c)3) and pet adopters! Other items such as food, treats, pet carriers, cages, leashes, collars, food bowls, etc. are also ALWAYS welcomed and appreciated. Please contact us if you have an item to be donated or would like to volunteer with us to try to save some of these homeless, but very loveable, dogs!
