My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Introducing CHESTER!

The dynamic dynamo of the doggy world! At a solid 50 lbs of fur and fun, this terrier mix is a force to be reckoned with. With boundless energy and a personality that could light up the darkest room, CHESTER is like a furry tornado of joy ready to sweep you off your feet.

When he's not zooming around the backyard or charming everyone he meets with his irresistible grin, you can find CHESTER mastering new tricks (his latest obsession: 'fetch' with a twist) or snuggled up in a cozy blanket fort dreaming of his next big adventure. If you're ready to add a hefty dose of happiness to your life, look no further than CHESTER!

CHESTER is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all core vaccinations and monthly preventions. If you're interested in adopting CHESTER feel free to stop by our shelter or give us a call at 740-314-5583.

More about this shelter

We are the Jefferson County Humane Society and , except for our humane officers (who are paid very nominally), we are all volunteers! Our members were instrumental in getting a local levy passed to build a new and larger shelter and the doors opened in 2011. We are currently participating in Iams Home for the Holidays Program and the Purina Pets for People grant program. We are actively pursuing other grants and recently have been asked by the county to partner with them in the operation of the new shelter. Since we are a humane society, our main focus is on getting animals spayed and neutered so there are no more homeless pets. To that end, we bring in a mobile animal surgical clinic who performs spays and neuters at a reduced rate. We are always looking for volunteers to help us in our efforts and, of course, for financial contributions (we are a non-profit, 501 (c)3) and pet adopters! Other items such as food, treats, pet carriers, cages, leashes, collars, food bowls, etc. are also ALWAYS welcomed and appreciated. Please contact us if you have an item to be donated or would like to volunteer with us to try to save some of these homeless, but very loveable, dogs!
