My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bear is fostered in Wayland, MI

With auburn hair and tawny eyes, Red Bear has the kind of eyes that hypnotize.  Bear is a 3 year old red tri male, currently weight about 50 bls.  Bear is a velcro, handsome, sweet, calm, well-mannered, loveable dog looking for his forever home.  Bear is super smart and a quick learner! He currently knows:  Sit; stay; down; no; off; leave it; ok/free (release); come (excellent recall).  His foster home is still working on leash manners (he can be a puller).

Bear has also learned "be nice" while he adjusted to the resident aussie.  It is used when possessive of items begins to show. Bear has excellent house manners. He also does well in his crate. Bear does have a cute quirk that where he makes some rumble or grumble noises (not growls) as he gets comfortable snuggling with his humane. He also sometimes snores!

When Red Bear needs to go out, he will come sit and stare at you. Bear is a medium-to-high energy dog. He is up for outings and adventures, a round of fetch (has ball drive) or playing in yard. He has a great off switch and is also learning the command "take a break" when play is ended.  Bear would be just as happy snuggling on couch with you or just hanging out with you. He rides well in the vehicle and enjoys it.  Bear is very good with all things grooming.

Bear would prefer to be an only dog. He just wants unconditional love and attention and will return it a hundred-fold to you.  If there is another dog now or later, he would do better if they were his size (he's 45 lbs.) or smaller; potentially a female. Bear will need to meet any other dog in the home first to determine if they will be friends.  Bear also needs a person with strong leadership and training skills (as most aussies do).  We recommend Bear in a home with no young children.  When meeting a toddler, he wanted to hide behind his foster mom.  We think little ones would be too much for him.  Children 12+ would be fine.

Red Bear is neutered, up-to-date on all vaccinations, microchipped and receiving monthly preventatives for fleas, ticks and heartworms.  NOTE:  Proof of heartworms for any previous and current pets is required to adopt from us.  Adopters must be willing to provide 1 - 2 hours of mental and/or physical stimulation per day.

Additional adoption info

Meeting any dog within MASR requires an approved adoption application on file. We process as quickly as possible via volunteers. Then connect an applicant one at a time with a dog and foster home to arrange a meet and greet. If all parties at the meet and greet, including the dog, are in agreement that it is a good fit, the dog goes home that day.
