My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Stuart: Stuart is a 4-year-old retriever mix who originally came to us from Palm Beach County in early 2023. He was adopted and later returned to our care in late 2023 due to resource guarding behaviors. With the right understanding and management, Stuart continues to show he can be a loving and rewarding companion. Stuart has shown some resource guarding around food and toys. This does not make him a bad dog, but it does mean he will thrive best with experienced adopters who can provide structure, consistency, and a predictable routine. For this reason, Stuart is best suited for an adult-only home, or a household where everyone can fully respect his boundaries. He does well with other dogs and enjoys canine companionship. Stuart is house-trained, knows basic commands, and benefits from clear guidance. Due to a prey drive, he would do best in a home without cats. Despite these challenges, Stuart has a very affectionate side—he loves to cuddle and enjoys being close to his people. With patient, knowledgeable adopters, Stuart has the potential to build a strong bond and succeed in a forever home.
