My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Barbie is a sweet 1-2 year old 63lbs mixed breed. She came from an abusive household and was dragged by a car which resulted in her having to go through major surgery and has large scars on her hind two legs. Regardless of this horrible situation, Barbie has come out stronger than ever and is full of energy and love to give. She's a big puppy at heart and wants a happy mix of play time and Netflix-on-the-couch time.

Personality & Characteristics: Barbie is a sweet energetic girl. She has a lot of patience and just wants to hang out with her family. She has bursts of energy so walks and playtime are necessary for her, but afterward she'll be a couch potato for hours! She also LOVES playing with other pups and her and our resident dog have become fast playmates.

Barbie will wind down around bedtime, usually cuddling up on the couch or her dog bed. She sleeps through the night, and will only get up in the morning if breakfast is involved :) After her morning romp she's back on the couch, likely snoring, in no time.

Barbie is currently working on house training but is getting the hang of it! We currently keep a pee pad out in case of emergencies, but reinforcing "good potty outside" and getting her on a schedule to help the process. Barbie has also begun to give ques that she wants to go outside, such as standing at the backdoor. She doesn't always go potty on walks as she can be easily distracted, so finding a quiet area or a private backyard is helpful.
We have not tried her in a crate, but have gated her while we were away or could not keep eyes on her. She whined for a few minutes (if that) but quickly settled and stayed relaxed the entire time, cuddling up in her dog bed like the good girl she is.
Barbie has been around toddler-aged children and was very curious but respectful!
Barbie would thrive in any home that is willing to shower her in all of the cuddles. She is still learning how to be a carefree dog, so if you channel your love to her through understanding, teaching, patience and all of the belly scratches she is sure to return it ten-fold!

3 Keywords for your pup: Gentle, loving, inquisitive
Energy Level (1= calm, 10= high energy): 6
Barker? Or Quiet Pup?: Quiet pup, but can get mouthy when playing
Walking Manners: she's still working to heel while walking on a leash but she's a fast learner! We've started to use a harness which has been helpful. With her injuries she does have a limp and may not love to walk long distances.

Appetite: Barbie has a big appetite since she's a big girl, but she is very respectful and will stay out of your way while you eat.
Favorite Things: squeaky toy, not giving up until she finds the comfiest spot possible, and a good game of tug of war with her foster sister!
Commands/Tricks: She has mastered "sit" and we're working on others! She's also a champ in the car and sleeps through the night with no problem.

ALL adoptions require a completed application and final contract. The application can be found at  WaldosRescue.org  and once you are approved to adopt you will be put in touch with the foster to see if it’s a good match. We are a RESCUE not a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks during the application approval process. We are unable to contact every applicant for every dog.  We will select the best applicant for each dog, based on the dogs needs.

Waldos Rescue Pen is a 501c3 whose primary focus is rescuing dogs from the euthanasia list from high kill shelters throughout the United States
