My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Coat Check Chester, the inquisitive, reserved, and friendly cat. He might seem a bit shy initially, but soon enough, you'll catch him trailing you around the apartment, keen on getting some head scratches.

Coat Check Chester does best when he can have some alone time during the day. If he needs space, he'll give you a little nip or a paw, signaling it's time to back off. While he's not a lap cat, you'll often find him settling close by. His preferred method of companionship is sitting nearby, tail curled around his front paws.

Coat Check Chester can be easily spooked by unexpected or unwanted touches, so it's important to check if he's in the mood. Also, watch out for those wand toys flying overhead – they're typically not his thing. Stick to laser pointers and ground-chasing toys for his playful moments.

Some things that make Coat Check Chester happy: a cozy blanket for napping, laser pointers, mealtime, scratch-friendly surfaces, and his signature move – a double cheek rub followed by a subtle request for head scratches.

This cat can be adopted with a friend or as a single cat.

More about this rescue

Our rescue group was formed in December 2007, but all our Board Members have had extensive experience rescuing and working with abandoned animals. We often work with other rescue organizations to find appropriate and safe foster and adoptive homes for our pet clients. We regularly go to areas with abandoned animals and collect them. The animals are taken to a licensed veterinarian examined, treated and spayed or neutered. Every effort is made to work with the animal and our foster and adoptive families to find a suitable forever home.

For those animals who are truly wild and feral, we release the animal in a safe and secure location after it has recovered from its medical treatment. We also work with certified wildlife rehabilitators to rescue injured and orphaned wildlife. Our organization is focused on improving the welfare of the abandoned animals in need of help in Brooklyn. In furthering that goal, our resources are focused on the animals.

Aside from a few minimal overhead costs such as our website and phone services, our entire budget is spent on animal care such as medical and food costs.
