My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Zumba is a 9 year old male dog who came to ACCT Philly on 3/12 when his owner was moving and could not take his three dogs along. Zumba was said to know several commands, is apparently housetrained and has previously lived with children and other dogs. Sadly, Zumba's two former dog companions found placement, and Zumba was adopted briefly, however he was confused in his adoptive home about how to best make friends with the resident rabbit and now Zumba is back here waiting for a true forever home. Zumba will need to go to a home without cats or small animals.

*NEW NOTES* Per Volunteer 4/24/24: Zumba is one handsome gentleman that is such a sweetie! He lived with other dogs and children and is housetrained. Zumba loves to sit for treats and is a great walker. He is such a happy guy and is always wagging his tail..he loves everyone he meets. Zumba likes other dogs and will put a smile on your face the very first time you meet him!

*NEW NOTES* Per volunteer on 4/21/24:
This was my first time meeting Zumba, and he may be the perfect definition of "sweet potato"! We went for a short walk and he was good on the leash just strolling along taking in all the smells, he seemed to enjoy walking on the grass. He showed me he knows sit and he takes treats gently. He enjoyed a good scratchin' all over. We went into the play yard and he really like chompin' on a tennis ball and he would trade the ball for treats. Zumba seems like a really easy going older pup, who just enjoys the simple things in life. I really enjoyed my time with him.

*NEW NOTES* Day Trip Notes 4/20: Zumba is an easy-going, sweet, chunky hippo boy. We went on a 30 minute easy hike and he had a great time sniffing around. He was definitely tired afterwards! Then, we went to Manayunk to get some treats at the bakery. He was super interested in saying hi to people and other dogs. He knew some commands (sit and lay down) and is definitely food motivated and super trainable!

3/17 Got Zumba out for some activity time. In kennel he was laying against the door, but got up when he heard me. He sniffed the leash curiously and gave a couple mid level wags. When I reached in to leash him he dodged a couple times, but wasn't too hard to lasso. When we got to the room he sniffed around and did his business, this guy seems house-trained! Zumba came up to me after pottying and leaned into my legs when I started petting him. He did the cutest little hop-skip around like he was so excited! His favorite spot is butt scratches, and gets so goofy when you scratch just right. We played with toys for a bit but he never fully committed to one. Zumba is all about the treats and pets! He takes treats gently and knows "sit" and "down"! Zumba would be a great lower energy dog for someone who's looking for a senior cuddle buddy to spoil.

3/13 . Zumba was easy to leash. He was lying by the door and came to the front with soft eyes and a wagging tail. He was patient and very easy to leash. No issues exiting or returning. Zumba was calm and friendly outside with us! He was pretty mellow and slow moving and would explore the yard and wag at other dogs as they went by. He was tolerant and loose with all handling and would lean in for pets, but also preferred to explore and wander around.

When Medical staff evaluated Zumba he was found to have Severe dental disease consistent with his age, a small benign mass near his genitals, and an upper respiratory infection. He was treated with doxycycline for his URI and he will likely need a dental cleaning with possible extractions in the future. On 4/4 it was noted that Zumba's URI was not resolved and he was treated with azithromycin.

If you are a rescue interested in pulling this animal, please email our lifesaving team, or visit here if you are not currently a rescue partner: https://acctphilly.org/acct-philly-love-local-partnership-program/

Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging a dog or cat.

Confirmed placement is considered confirmation of an actual rescue pull. Possible placement, interested parties, and other "TBD" statuses are not considered confirmed and do not indicate an animal is no longer urgent

All animals at ACCT Philly are from Philadelphia, as the only open intake animal shelter in Philadelphia, we are not able to accept animals from outside of Philadelphia. ACCT Philly's Pennsylvania kennel license number is 08313
