My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Introducing the one and only Kai - the forever young canine extraordinaire! At a sprightly 9 years old, this neutered Blue boy is proof that age is just a number, because he's rocking it like a pup in his prime! Currently, Kai resides with a dynamic duo - a married couple and a dynamic doggy duo, an 8-year-old Boxer/Lab mix, and a 9-year-old small mix. And let me tell you, Kai's social skills are top-notch! When the doorbell rings, he'll serenade you with a couple of enthusiastic barks before greeting guests with a wagging tail and the manners of a true gentleman. Kai's daily routine is as structured as a puppy preschool syllabus. From morning walks to backyard breaks, he's got it all planned out. But the highlight of his day? Bedtime, baby! Kai's the king of snuggles, always first in line for a cozy cuddle session. And let's talk about his bathroom etiquette, shall we? This pooch is more reliable than your morning alarm clock. Not a single accident in the house - talk about impressive! Plus, he's a pro at sharing the love. If one of his furry siblings gets some scratches and snuggles, you can bet Kai's patiently waiting for his turn. Now, when it comes to hobbies, Kai's got a bit of a wild side. He's a seasoned pro at squirrel chasing, though he's yet to prove his fence-hopping skills. But hey, why bother when there's so much love and fun to be had on this side? So, if you're looking for a canine companion who's part pup, part perpetual joy machine, look no further than Kai! Just be prepared to give him the love and attention he deserves - and maybe a few extra scratches behind the ears.

Go meet their pets

Great Lakes Weimaraner Rescue is not a physical facility shelter. We are a group of volunteers that live throughout the Great Lakes Region; Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Ontario. The weims in our care and re-homing program reside with our foster families until they are adopted. Once you complete the adoption process, you are more than welcome to visit the dogs that are suitable for you, your family and lifestyle at their foster home!

More about this rescue

Great Lakes Weimaraner Rescue is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit group whose primary mission is to help with the rescue & placement of Weims in the Great Lakes region; including Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Ontario.

Dogs that enter our rescue are placed into our foster care network which provides a stable, loving family environment. Each dog's medical & emotional needs are provided for as they wait for their new "forever" home. We believe that every dog deserves a chance to enjoy a good life. We adhere to a "no-kill" philosophy.

GLWR was created in an effort to support & provide for the rescue, recovery, care, rehabilitation & re-homing of Weims in need across the Great Lakes region. No one individual is GLWR...we came together to form a collective & collaborative organization with our sole purpose being to assist Weims in need. We work with the various networks of shelters and containment facilities in several states as well as accept owner relinquishments. We exist solely on the generous donations of those who love these majestic "gray ghosts" as much as we do & the fund raising efforts of our very talented and energetic group. All funds received are used to support the vet care & other essential expenses necessary in the daily care of the dogs.

We believe in doing everything possible to help a dog make the transition to their forever home. We are here for the Weims & the Weims alone...our reward lies not in the accolades of being "rescuers" but in the gratitude we see in the bright, loving eyes of one of our Weims as they move onto their forever home... dogs that were once sad, dejected, & without hope that now have a chance to experience the love and warmth of a family that will truly love and care for them.
