My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Echo, your potential new furry confidante! At five years old, this Weimaraner is brimming with love and ready to find her forever family. Echo embodies the quintessential Velcro Weimaraner, deeply devoted to her humans and yearning for that special bond. Circumstances beyond her control have led her on a search for a new home, but her heart remains open and eager for connection. While she enjoys the company of other dogs, Echo thrives best either as the sole canine companion or alongside a furry sibling, where she can gracefully assume the role of gentle leader. Already housebroken and crate trained, Echo makes transitioning into a new home a seamless experience. With her intelligence on display through mastering the use of a doggy door, she's proven her adaptability time and time again. While she's content to snooze in her crate, her true joy lies in snuggling up next to you, embodying the classic Velcro Weimaraner trait with her nose touching your shoulder. An energetic soul, Echo is always up for a game of fetch or a romp in the backyard with her favorite ball or stick. Yet, she equally appreciates moments of tranquility, happily lounging on the couch as you catch up on your favorite shows. Grooming sessions are a breeze with Echo, who readily accepts nail trims and bath time without fuss. For those who love the great outdoors, Echo is the perfect adventure buddy. She delights in walks and hikes, though she could benefit from a bit of leash manners training as she tends to pull. Her enthusiasm knows no bounds, especially upon your return home, but she's making strides in learning not to jump. In the right home, Echo thrives as an integral part of the family. She revels in being included in various activities and is sociable enough to join you at restaurants or winery patios, enjoying the company of both humans and fellow canines. With her trusting and loving nature, Echo is poised to bring boundless joy and companionship into the lives of her new family. If you're in search of a loyal and affectionate friend, look no further than Echo!

Go meet their pets

Great Lakes Weimaraner Rescue is not a physical facility shelter. We are a group of volunteers that live throughout the Great Lakes Region; Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Ontario. The weims in our care and re-homing program reside with our foster families until they are adopted. Once you complete the adoption process, you are more than welcome to visit the dogs that are suitable for you, your family and lifestyle at their foster home!

More about this rescue

Great Lakes Weimaraner Rescue is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit group whose primary mission is to help with the rescue & placement of Weims in the Great Lakes region; including Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Ontario.

Dogs that enter our rescue are placed into our foster care network which provides a stable, loving family environment. Each dog's medical & emotional needs are provided for as they wait for their new "forever" home. We believe that every dog deserves a chance to enjoy a good life. We adhere to a "no-kill" philosophy.

GLWR was created in an effort to support & provide for the rescue, recovery, care, rehabilitation & re-homing of Weims in need across the Great Lakes region. No one individual is GLWR...we came together to form a collective & collaborative organization with our sole purpose being to assist Weims in need. We work with the various networks of shelters and containment facilities in several states as well as accept owner relinquishments. We exist solely on the generous donations of those who love these majestic "gray ghosts" as much as we do & the fund raising efforts of our very talented and energetic group. All funds received are used to support the vet care & other essential expenses necessary in the daily care of the dogs.

We believe in doing everything possible to help a dog make the transition to their forever home. We are here for the Weims & the Weims alone...our reward lies not in the accolades of being "rescuers" but in the gratitude we see in the bright, loving eyes of one of our Weims as they move onto their forever home... dogs that were once sad, dejected, & without hope that now have a chance to experience the love and warmth of a family that will truly love and care for them.
